Boy, after reading these and thinking of the things that went wrong
with mine, I tell myself..." I sure the heck wouldn't put up with that
on the car I drive"!

OK, let's see...my 08 CUSE3, 78,000 miles:
- oil leak at oil filter adapter
- lifters
-on its 3rd compensator
- starter, clutch basket (went in with 2nd SE compensator)
- right heated grip
- kickstand
- front cylinder ACR

Glad I got ESP!!
Still love the bike; best touring bike I've ever had.  I'll buy another CVO when the time comes (maybe next year when my ESP expires!)

FLSTSE2  Cylinders and piston sets for piston slap at 1000 mi.  Lifters at same time.  Since then all fine at 36,000 mi....

2012 SGSE3

One rear spear grill lifting so replaced.
Voltage regulator replaced as on the list for potential failure.
Heated grips after two weeks. - yes the HD ones .

Just threeitems under warranty.  And I hope it remains that way.
So one year old with just 5000 miles on the clock. The engine is sweet and improves every time I ride it.

2011 FLTRUSE, 15,200 miles:

Heated seat (Still waiting for part, heat stopped working on driver area, passenger area is OK)
IPOD cable (plastic broke at end where IPOD connects)
Courteousness light harness (Replaced in tour pack and left saddle bag light turned on when I rode bike)
Steering tightened twice (front end shook and still shakes when decelerating when speed reaches 30 MPH)
Heated hand grips (No need to replace, surprisingly, wire was just loose at connection)

With all the bitching I read on this form (and I love the form) I would still walk into any Harley Dealer and buy their product. No other bike raises my pulse rate like an HD, you can spend less for more on a Honda or Victory, but you still will not have a Harley with the heritage, history or the rumble of a Harley V-twin. As much as I read about annoying issues with HD, we all opted to spend ABOVE what a normal HD costs, some of you did this more than once! A famous man (or woman, I don't remember who, so maybe not so famous) once said "Do not do the same thing over and over but expect different results"

My dealer's store manager knows me by my first name, so does the HD owner, A female. I have an HD dealer 3 miles from my house, the dealer where I bought my CVO is 25 miles away, I go to the dealer where I bought my CVO! They pick up my bike and trail it (covered trailer) to the shop, perform the work and deliver it to my house, all because I have a relationship with them. I feel special, so rather than bitch about the warrantee issues listed above, I accept that every mechanical product may (and most likely) will have some flaws. By developing a relationship and by showing loyalty to my dealer (They know I live 3 miles from another HD) I get the respect and service I deserve by buying a limited edition, EXPENSIVE Harley

1.  Mirror arms replaced because of chrome peeling.
2.  Chrome console replaced for bubbles in chrome.
Not sure if I will get it replaced under warranty, but the gray label around the CVO light just popped up on the new replacement and is peeling off and the mirrors have the same chrome peeling problem the arms for them had.

Oops, forgot one.  I also had to have the fork lock replaced so my Gold Key no longer fits that lock.

Just an observation on my part, but it would seem to me that the MoCo is really on the wrong track.   Having lived through the AMF days, I see a lot of AMF thinking in how the MoCo operates today.  It's all about the bottom line again.  AMF had some real flashy decals and sparkly paint, easy financing, and now so does the MoCo.  AMF had a few serious drive train issues that were mostly ignored by the warranty, and it would seem that we have returned to the same process.  AMF made design changes to cut expenses, not to improve reliability, sound like what the MoCo has done with the Twin Cam?   AMF was almost at war with it's Harley workers, need I say more.  AMF chrome and bling seldom stayed bright for more than a year, same story again.

I can fondly remember buying 80's scooters that after the first service, never saw a dealer again.  Scooters that had engines that only rattled if something was seriously wrong.  And rarely did that before 40K.  Wheel bearings that would last the life of the scooter with no service.  And if you got a scooter that had an issue, the MoCo fixed it.  Case cracked or cam bearing failed?  No problem, as long as you were the original owner, it was warrantied regardless of mileage.  Second hand owners called this "Silent Recalls", but such is life.  I can remember waiting for new models because they were actually improved from the previous year, as opposed to just being dressed different.  And most of all, I can recall when everyone at the dealer was a scooter guy (or gal) and wanted to be there.

Third CVO; 07 Ultra; head gaskets but nothing else. 2010.5 Ultra no problems.
2012 had top in rattle out the door; always between 2200 and 3000 rpm's. Finally 10 months later and 7K miles the motor gave up.
Week before last on a Wednesday it went in to have the lifters replaced. On the way to the dealer it began a new noise in the lower end. Crankshaft was found to have too much slack. Harley sent a new engine that was received on the following Tuesday. Received the bike back yesterday in new condition; no noise from the inside of the engine. I am currently a happy camper and will buy (have actually bught) Harley again in the future. I couldn't ask for better service from Harley and from my dealer here in Mobile. Although it did cost me a little money as I saw an 06 SE Fatboy on the floor (with 4400 miles on it) on the way out. I couldn't live without it and so now I have two another. I think the dealer is what makes it all work; the owners and competent employees.
