Question about XM Radio
« on: August 30, 2006, 09:39:27 PM »

Have a question. I am familiar with XM radios so the activation wasn't a problem. I do have a problem though. My XM radio only plays out of the left two speakers. ( Front left, rear left )The radio ( FM and AM ) plays through all four. I have looked at setup and find Fading but no balance feature. Am I over looking something , or do I have a problem. Appreciate any help.

The XM has to be a seperate "Box" that plugs into your stereo, Sounds like the right channel plug from the "Box" to the stereo might be loose.

That would be my thought as well...loose connection.  Contrary to some of the threads on here, I really like my XM.  The reception in some areas sux, but I think that will be remedied when I pull the front fairing off and relocate the XM antenna to the top of the radio...it still rocks to be able to find so many different genres of music, depending on your mood, and the surroundings of your ride!!

I agree about the loose connection... I was just hoping that someone would say there was a balancing feature in radio I was over looking.

TCnBham, thanks for the compliments.

Twolanerider, Thanks for the picture. I hope you didn't pull the fairing apart just to take a picture for me  :)  After seeing the inside , I think I'll just have the dealer look at it.

I'm installing a new head unit in my truck and got the xm module add on for it. The plug that ceej mentions is connected to my tuner from the ditgal adapter that is not part of the HD radio so you have other issue's. that your dealer should take care of. Nice looking ride. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Yeah, thats not what I expected, my XM module that plugs into my head unit uses rca jacks. That bundle going to the stereo would include channel control, display info as well as the speaker wires, I see a red and white wire and would assume they would be the right and left. One could be a broke or cracked inside or - more likely - the wires go into a plug and thats where the problem lies. The dealer will probably just swap out the whole unit as opposed to fixing anything, so before you take it in write down the radio ID number of the unit you have (should be on channel 1 i think) - then after you get the new one you can call and have them swap your service from one radio to another.

Thanks ceej, I will do that. Guess the more accessories you have the more things that can go wrong.

One of the most common causes for things like this is a "terminal push-out" in one of the connectors.  The metal terminals slide into the plastic connector shell from the wiring side and lock in place - if the terminal didn't get locked in properly it will push back out rather than engage with the corresponding terminal in the mating connector.  A quick check involves removing the connector, visually verifying that all terminals are at the same depth in the connector shell, and lightly tugging each wire to make sure it's locked in.  If a wire isn't locked, push the wire in until it does lock.

Just looking at your picture again....I've got to say, with no offense intended to those with other colors, that red is beautiful!!  If I weren't completely in love with my BCCS, and was buying this year, that would be the color for me!! I also notice you've put a couple of add-ons to your scooter...what kind of seat is that?
