Vibration at high speed
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:06:52 PM »

Have an 11 CVO Road Glide, just replaced front and back tire.  Ride is smooth up to about 65 MPH then it develops a vibration up through the floor boards that almost put my feet to sleep.  Checked bearings all seem okay, no rough spots all seem to be smooth turning.  Vibration seems to occur at 65+ up, only took it up to 95 still has vibration, pulled clutch in, rpms to 1000 it did not seem to affect vibration.

any ideas????????

Assuming the vibration just started when the tires were changed I would look at the tire balance.

x3. Over the years I have had two instances of brand new tires being defective. First one had lateral runout just under the factory spec for being defective yet being on the rear it caused a definite squirrelly feeling. On the ruse I had a front tire cause a problem. I noticed it right away and came back. Lots of balance weights and tech said he had a lot if trouble balancing it. Service manager pronounced it incapable of being balanced.

Oh the joys of owning Harleys and dealing with this chit.

X4 start by looking at the last thing you did (change tires).

Tires or check the front motor mount.   They have been known to not be aligned correct which will cause exactly what you are feeling in the footboard.   In my case it was the air cleaner side footboard that was more noticable.

Okay Screwup we need an update.  Don't tease us with a problem and then not tell us what was done to fix the problem.   :)

took the scoot back to dealership due to vibration and heated grips.   Heated grips had broken wires both sides, both sides replaced.  so far have not had a call on the vibration being fixed.  they are still looking at it.  have been to busy with other stuff right now to worry about scoot.  will keep posting when/after they call if fixed.

IMHO if they say it can't be balanced, it should be an automatic new tire replacement of the bad tire, no questions asked.   :juggle2:
