I take the heel shifters off.

Well, I installed the spacers on the floorboards, but the angle remains the same due to the fact that you've got to take the oil cooler, and plate off to get to the bolts if you want to move them up any on the front.  The spacers are going to help a great deal, I think.  Also adjusted the shifters so that the toe shifter is a bit lower...sits on top of my boot lightly now instead of an inch above it as before.  Lowered the back one a notch too.  I'll see if I can get used to it...my brain is programmed for the toe, so we'll see.  With the boards out the extra 3/4" I'll be able to catch the toe shifter with the edge of my toe, which is the way I prefer it.

Thanks for all the tips/tricks/suggestions.  It would probably work out better for me to stay with the toe since the Vrod is only toe, and it sits right where I like it too.  Don't need to be having to think about these things...needs to be automatic.

My bike wasn't home 10 minutes before the heel shifter was sitting in a box......it's been there ever since.  Gets in the way..........

Hey Terry,

I've owned bikes with each style shifter.  After having surgery on my left knee I found it easier to shift with the heel/toe combo.  If you're still put together with original parts ( [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif])  do whatever feels the best.   [smiley=banana.gif]

The heel peg is not in the way of my size 10's. I didn't remove it, but I rarely if ever use it. I can upshift faster with my foot jammed under the toe peg. But, that heel peg came in handy when I was riding a buddy's bike once and the toe peg vibrated off on the freeway! I could downshift by pressing my foot down on the front lever, and upshift with the heel peg. It got me home.

Terry I have had a Fatboy where I swapped out my floorboards for forward controls and regretted it. Now with my SERK and size 13 feet I love the heel toe shifting and I have no comfort issues.I as well lowered the heel shifter down as far as it could go and still be effective. As they say to each his own. Later Bro,Q (39 days to the Valley)
