Fuel gauge went dark!
« on: August 31, 2006, 01:16:09 PM »

My fuel gauge light went out, has anyone had a problem with the dash lights? Is it hard to fix? Is there replacement bulbs?

I lost all gauges but that was a fuse, single gauge I'd start with the gauge.

The bulb simply gets replaced if it burned out here's the back of my rain gauge

And here it is with the bulb removed, simple enough if it is only a burned out bulb.  It pulls straight out with a small pair of pliars.

Don't forget you need to re-use the little red condom on the bulb/lamp

The bulbs come with the red condom on them. Once they are used you can't take them off without tearing them [smiley=oops.gif] :o

Gotta disagree here - if you buy the lamps from the dealer then yeah they probably will come with the red condom - BTW I can't find the part number (of the lamp with the condom) in my spares book - I have 75045-96 for the clear bulb from a previous '98 FLHTCI but nothing in my '05 FLHTCSE2 book?

But I didn't fancy a 100 mile round trip for a

Yep, thanks - I found it in my book -  eventually...

Are the lamps and holders the same for the speedo and tach?

Cheers

No, the lamps in the speedo and tach are not servicable. [smiley=confused5.gif]
I noticed that when I was upgrading to Hogtunes. What does one do if the bulbs go out... replace speedo or tach? [smiley=nervous.gif] Hopefully it could/would be run up to current mileage on bike when new on was installed? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Here's a question I haven't seen before - has anyone tried brighter bulbs for the small gauges so you can actually read the suckers at night?  The speedo and tach are too bright, and the rest of the gauges are way too dim by comparison.  I think that red "condom" on the bulb may be the culprit, might have to research true red bulbs that don't require the "condom".
