Ipod intermittent issue
« on: November 25, 2012, 08:54:33 AM »

Hi all,

I continue to have an intermittent issue with my Ipod playing.  I cant tell what the circumstances are that lead to it not working.  Basically I see the song on the screen but no sound.  I cycle thru and when I get back to Ipod it plays for 1 sec and then stops.  If I shut the bike down and restart, same thing.  The only cure is if I shut down and unplug and plug back in.  Then it starts playing.  This seems to happen when I am skipping songs alot.  Anyone else have this issue or a fix.  Thanks

Mine does the same thing now and then.  I don't shut the bike down.  I turn the volume down.  Unplug the iPod then plug it back in and then its good for a while.  I think the system gets jammed or something.   :nixweiss:

Have the same issue from time to time on my previous bike (2011 RUSE) and now my current 2012 CUSE7.  Several others have also reported this problem previously.  Don't know if it is the iPod or the harness or the radio unit but something is not quite ready for primetime for sure.

I posted this solution previously.  It does work and you can do it easily while riding without taking your hands off the handlebars.  And no, you don't have to cross yourself, spit over your shoulder, keep one eye closed or do any other weird things, lol.   ;D

Using the 'mode sel' switch on the right handlebar scroll through the inputs until you get to XM so the iPod will be next in line.  Press 'mode sel' once again to select iPod as your input source.  Quickly (not instantaneously but without much delay) press the 'mode sel' switch up a couple times then down a couple times (can also go down first, then up, does not matter).

This has always gotten my the iPod to play for me.  Beats having to stop and unplug it or power it down, etc.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thought all that came with iPod had XM but guess it is only on the ultra classics.   :nixweiss:  No matter I only use that as a reference point so I will be ready to toggle up / down when I get to IPod as input source.  Give it a try.  Works for me - hope it does for you also.   :2vrolijk_21:

That works for me and I don't have XM either.  Usually don't have to press up and down several times either, most of the time, cycling through the modes gets mine working again.

Mine comes on only for a second also. Then I scroll through a few more times,, when that doesn't work, I pull over and unplug the plg back in and it's fine for a while.  PITA when that happens  >:(

That is what I tried many, many times with no success.  Like others have said all it would do is play for a few seconds and then go silent.  It is a strange system and has several 'bugs' for sure.

Anyway, to reiterate - the XM has nothing to do with it.  I just use it as a reference point so I know that the iPod is next and I'll be ready for it.

When mine was new, I had this problem a lot.  Now days I can go several weeks without a problem.  The scrolling or unplugging always fixed mine when the problem happened.

Mine has done that since it was new. Added the XM later and same issue. Scrolling thru play list's has always fixed and has gone longer in between issues as time has gone by but definitely a PIA when it happens...

woo hoo.  i've got the answer.  and here i felt i had nothing to contribute cause i don't have a cvo (yet) :D

mine has done this several times as well.  i used to do the unplug, plug it back in thing until i stumbled across this one day.  when it doesn't play, just reach up and go to 'playlist'.  i don't have any playlists, but it'll say something like 'no name playlist', and then start playing.  i keep mine on shuffle, so sometimes i have to select 'shuffle' again, but most times not.....

I had the same problem...the dealer replaced the 30 pin cable (HD p/n 72651-11) under warranty and it seems to be working ok now.  From what the service manager said, there were a problem with a lot of the original cables which explains why my part was on backorder for about 6 weeks.
