LED Headlight Vibration
« on: November 26, 2012, 01:28:47 PM »

I installed Harley's LED headlight and am impressed with the increased visibility, However I don't care for the vibration of the headlight. Has anyone had any luck dampening the vibration?

Can't say I ever noticed the vibration, however I don't have an LED headlight.

Need more detail.  What exactly is vibrating, the headlight in the housing or is it just that you can more easily see the vibration of the bike in the light pattern while in operation?  The beam pattern is significantly different than stock, with a sharper upper cutoff, so any vibration of the bike will be more obvious.

I did notice in the parts catalog that Harley sells a vibration damper for the LED headlight for certain models, but it didn't mention the FLSTSE as being one of the bikes that needed this part.    P/N 67700059

Jerry,

It's not the headlight in the housing, it's the entire assembly. I'm seeing the light pattern vibrate. Especially as it reflects off road signs. Almost gives a strobe effect. Maybe it's always done it but the sharper cutoff you're describing along with the brighter, whiter light just makes it noticeable.  I've seen other posts commenting about this topic but I've never seen a suggested solution.

On the positive side, the movement combined with the brightness certainly makes it more noticeable in the daylight!

Thanks,

Mine vibrates too..the light on the road vibrates, not the fixture itself..the led must be much more sensitive to motion as compared to a sealed beam.  Question is: on the new CVO's that come with LED's, does their light pattern also vibrate? If not Why????

The LED module is not only heavier than the stock headlight; the extra weight is all at the front of the headlight nacelle. This mass is now forward of the rubber mounting points and the resulting force acts like a lever leaving the entire headlight susceptible to vibration. I remember reading somewhere there is a HD rubber part called a "snubber" that some have used to successfully dampen these vibrations. I had a part number once and if I can dig it up I will post it.

I just got that LED headlight but have yet to install it.  I will wait to see if I need to get another part to dampen the vibration.

Thanks Jerry,

I saw this part but the catalog didn't list the 2010 conv. model number as needing it. It's definitely worth a try. I'll let you all know if it works.

Yep I just installed the LED light and definitely noticed the vibration of the light beam.  Will sure be interested to know if that block works.

Has anyone installed the vibration block? If so did it work? I just ordered one. For five bucks maybe I can modify it to work on an 11' FLSTSE.

Thanks, Frank

My stock, factory light vibrated as well. My new LED isn't any worse.

My LED has been vibrating for 15k miles and is doing fine.  (knocking on wood)  I consider it extra visibility.  :)
