Given this little info on what you need to know I'll suggest that you go to www.bhphotovideo.com and look for cannon lenses. This will provide you with typical prices and customer reviews of every available lens for this camera. They are a good product source or you could find what you want and buy it locally.

Am guessing you've got the Rebel T3?  If so your lens types are EF or EF-S.  You camera can use both.  For any lens model you're looking at check for those designations.  Any EF or EF-S lens you're good to go.  Anything else and you can't use it.  No in between.

That's a wide open invitation for help... if she's serious about it, she could get some serious revenge for your CVO purchase with this hobby!  :'(  I have one lens that cost $2300!

I'm a Nikon guy, but the basics are all the same.

THis is a pretty good price for a basic telephoto with image stabilization. DO NOT PAY $299 for it!! If you go to the right side under "more buying options" if you buy it through Amazon, it is $213. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-55-250mm-4-0-5-6-Telephoto-Digital/dp/B0011NVMO8
I hate that Amazon is pushing their "sold by" retailers, who sell for higher prices as the first option, while buying it directly through them (at $86 cheaper) is listed as an "other option." They must be getting some serious kickback from the other folks at that much of a price difference!

Another inexpensive option: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-75-300mm-4-5-6-Telephoto-Cameras/dp/B00004THD0/ref=pd_sim_p_4

And again, buying it through Amazon will save $46.

This one doesn't have image stabilization. And one thing to remember with the less expensive lenses, these will be great for taking pictures of landscapes, birds, buildings, but for action shots, especially on anything less than a bright sunny day, this isn't gonna cut it. You've got to start investing quite a bit more to get something capable of faster speed in lower light. That's why I spent what I did for my 70-200 2.8.

BHphoto is a great place to shop. They have everything and more. Kind of a CVO shop for cameras.

Wow I new I would get some great HELP.

Would anyone help me purchase one. It is a little over wellming to find the best deal. I think the ef-s 55-250 with image stabilization would be good for her. The only problem is I am in Canada and the cheapest method is snail mail so if I want this for Christmas I need to get going.

You can pm me if you like

Would love to help, but given I'm in Afghanistan, I think it would take longer for me to order it, have it shipped here and then ship it to you... lol

I'd agree that for the average shutterbug, that would be a good choice!

DELL has a nice selection if you're not into paying too much...

Also, if you need any additional filters or such... the mount is 58mm.   8)
