I have a 2011 SESG2 with 7,000 miles and the Fullsac stage 2 kit (including head gaskets). My origional warranty is set to run out in early January and I'm trying to decide on whether or not to purchase another 5 years. So far bike has been trouble free, but this is what I would expect with only 7,000 mi. My yearly mileage will probably go up some but probably not by a whole lot due to working all the frigg'in time!

So what do you guys think...is it worth it in my case to pony up or should I just hope for the best? And, is Kutter HD still the place to go for discounted ESP?

I have never paid for the warranty but a bunch have and said it paid off. I ride 25,000 miles a year.

My two cents....buy the warranty.  I have and have not over the years.  When I did purchase, I never had to utilize the extended portion but have used the factory/standard warranty a couple times.  Although, those Harley models were not CVOs.  With the CVO and the already large investment at the beginning, I sure would be upset to have the bike that does have some of the niggling issues mentioned many times here on the CVO site AFTER the standard warranty runs out and then be out big bucks. 
I did not purchase the extended warranty when I purchased Ginger in March of this year.  The dealer did their best to push the ESP but I have two years to decided.  And while it is more expensive in most cases to wait, you can use the two years to save up.  I know this may not be possible in your case as your factory warranty runs out in January.  I am making plans to purchase the ESP before my factory warranty runs out.

Scott, you can always purchase a two or three year plan to save a bit of money and then extend it at a later date.

There are a couple threads on the site concerning the ESP and some list great places to seek for a better price.  I will be shopping around when I get ready to purchase.  Hope this helps.

I did not buy it,I'd rather spend the money on an after market stereo,the rest of the bike is problem free

 Buy it!!! I've had trouble with almost everything but the engine/transmission (suprise)!
With the radio, CB, cruise, fairing brackets, oil leak etc. I'm money ahead with the
warranty.

If you plan to keep the bike and ride it I would encourage you to buy the ESP.  Eventually you most likely will have some trouble from the engine.  Maybe you'll catch it early or maybe like me it will grenade your entire motor.  Then there are all the other things that can and will go out - starter motors, stators, compensators, maybe some oil leaks, electronic problems.  The list is endless.  I've had it on all my Harleys and it has more than paid for itself over the long haul - will except for my RUSE that I kept for only 1 year.  But I cancelled the ESP on it and got a hefty refund.

And remember, if you don't go for the full 5 year term and take a shorter term you will not be able to renew coverage if your bike has over 75k on it when the term expires.

In the end it's your call. I didn't buy the ESP, a little bit because I didn't have extra cash but mostly because I did not want to have to use my local Stealer for repairs. Due to past experience of using them for the standard 2 year period. I did do some checking prior to my factory warranty expiring. I called at least 20 dealers searching for the lowest price. It's been almost 2 years but at the time Tri-County HD was by far the lowest price I found so it be a good idea to check around. .02  Oh, they can take your credit card over the phone so time should not be a problem.

If you are or plan on being a high mileage rider then I would get the ESP. If not, I'd skip it.  You always have the option to pick it up before your two year factory warranty expires.

that you can extend it all the way to 16 years if you have less then 70k the last
time you extend it?

Do you already have the Fullsac stage II installed?

If I stand correct this may cause some issues for you. If you get the ESP, everything else will be covered except for the non stock parts. And the ESP reps may not approve any warranty work.

This actually happened to a good friend of mine, he did some minor engine mods and they black listed on the warranty. He still gets tire and rim, and everything else except the motor covered.

As far as the ESP, mine has payed off for me. Others may vary.

I'm sure others will chime in with more knowleadge.

I am quite glad someone had asked this question, as it is the same thing that is going through my head. My 06 SG has 50,000 miles on it and has never been back to the dealer since the 1,000 mile service. I did all my own maintenance and repairs. I can honestly say I have not spent $500.00 on all repairs total on this bike. That does not include Amsoil engine oil changes every 3,000 miles and trans and primary oil changes every 6,000 miles. All my buddies say I am crazy for changing my fluids this frequently but in the end I really think it is why I have had zero problems with the engine or trans in this bike. Fast forward to today with my 2011 SESG. When I bought it in September I had no intention of buying any ESP crap, and every intention of servicing it exactly like I did the 06 and expecting the same reliability. After spending 3 months reading the horror stories of engine problems alone on this site, I can't hardly sleep without the thought of buying a warranty to save me the potential thousands of dollars this thing could cost me in repairs!!! I guess I am  gonna pony up before my factory warranty is up in March and buy the  ESP!!!

Just ran across this topic & i am having the same dilema. I have a 11 blue cvo ultra with 5000 miles on it. I am not a high mileage rider as have lots of other things going on & other toys. I plan to keep it for several years as i really really like it & my warranty runs out in February. I have had no problems at all so far other than the wheel weights went thru the front fender & harley bought me a new one. The dang front fender would have been a grand. Can't decide whether to buy the extended or just hope everything keeps working as good as it has. Sure read about lots of problems with them on here. Mine runs great & i don't feel like i ride it that hard so decisions decisions . . . . . I really don't ride it enough to justifiy having it but i sure enjoy it when i get to ride, it is a great stress reliever.

You don't necessarily have to use a Harley dealer at all.  There are plenty of independent shops that are approved to perform ESP repairs, call the ESP folks and ask for a list of approved shops in your area.

I always take the 5 year plan because that is about my trade cycle.  Have come out ahead having tha ESP plans.  The way I look at it is like having homeowners or health insurance I hope I never have to use it.
