What your "friend" did was take an email that's been floating around the internet for many months and forward it to you and probably dozens of others as well. Do an internet search on "SOCIAL SECURITY NOW CALLED 'FEDERAL BENEFIT PAYMENT'/ENTITLEMENT" and you will find that this is nothing new. It's always been called a benefit payment and many programs are called entitlements. Entitlement doesn't mean welfare or hand out or any of the other things some folks try to make it sound like. It basically means if you meet certain eligibility requirements you are "entitled" to a benefit. In the case of SS it's basically pretty simple, if you worked in a job covered by SS for 40 quarters or whatever the figure might be, once you reach a certain age you are "entitled" to receive the benefits you've earned. Doesn't matter if you're poor, middle class, or rich, since it's not a needs based program.
Don't let the hate mongers mess up your blood pressure. I've got a sister who sends this sort of drivel out in bulk and I just delete them as soon as I see who they're from and the subject.
