Tripple Trees for a 23" wheel
« on: December 06, 2012, 11:26:25 AM »

Still undecided on wheels.

Thinking a 23" up front now but I know I will have to change the trees and fender.  Fender is the easy part.  I have heard that Pickard makes a good bolt in option for trees.  Anyone use this or have something better in mind they are using?

If you are running a 23" how is the ride, stiff???

I still would like to take long trips so ride quality is foremost but it looks awesome!

Thanks, Rich

From what I have researched Pickard is the only one who says you do not have to cut the neck to run a 23".  I have looked into it and am on the fence.

I'd recommend Kewl Metal as they have been doing the tree's only (no frame mods needed) route for several years now. If anyone is using the Arlen Ness kit you will notice its stamped manufactured by "Kewl Metal".

Big Joe & Matt the 2 owners are actually both former rocket scientist who worked for years together in the Aerospace Industry before their love of motorcycles lead them to form Kewl Metal.   www.kewlmetal.com

Give Big Joe a call before you make your final decisions and I'm sure it'll be a call you are glad you made.

Rich and I have talked about a 23" several times. Two of the tree manufactures have steered us away from going 23" with using just the tress. I like the look of the 23" and the amount of work and cost to mount one is not terrible. It just appears anything over 80 MPH +/- with just tress the stability starts to disappear or so I have been told. I have no first hand knowledge with a 23" just a 21".

On the baggertech site there are/were a handful of guys running 23" wheels with no tree change.

Mike,

Is there much of a circumference difference between a 21" & 23" once the tire is mounted?

The fender adapter kit from HHI I used on 2013 CVO Ultra says it will work for both 21" and 23" wheels on a 2010-2013 CVO, the difference can't be very much if at all since I run a 21" and my fender is hugging the tire.

If there is no difference or if its very slight then maybe the tree kit isn't an absolute need with a 23".

I'll look into that as I don't know first hand. The 23" can be run without a tree kit. There are several pictures and threads on it at baggertech. Like with most things there will be some sacrifice whether it is in the low speed or high speed handling. Thus the tree kits are trying to come up with a happy medium.
