Installing Motor back in frame??
« on: December 12, 2012, 10:29:09 PM »

I had some work done on my engine recently and had the whole thing out of the chassis for a while and not it's time to put it back in.  The manual says to put it in from the right side of the bike but it sure looks to me like it would be easier to put in from the left side.  I'm going to try to do this by myself, and being that it's pretty heavy, I'd prefer not to have any surprises as I start to put it in.   What's the deal?  Will either side be easier than the other?  Just doesn't make any sense to me while standing there looking at it, to have to put it in from the right.
TIA,
Steve

What's the reasoning for putting it in from the right?  There must be some reason but looking at everything I sure can't see it.  Looks like there is more clearance from the left.  I'll do it from the right, but it sure doesn't seem necessary by looking----must be something I'm missing.

Ha Ha----I might, but the things so heavy I don't want to try this twice!  I'll take some pictures to show what I'm talking about.

Crank shaft sticking out a little farther on the left side :nixweiss:

that thing might make a little mess on the frame while tilting the motor enough to get it in from the left or even bend s those cranks seem to get out of whack easily :nervous:

Ok, I finally got around to putting the engine in this week.  I really thought the left side looked easier but I chickened out since the manual and everyone else said to go in from the right side.   So I stuck it in there from the right and I'll have to say it went in much, much easier than I could imagine.  Basically just dropped right into place.  Thanks for all the help.  Slow as I move I might get it all done in another week or so.  Got the new belt and pulleys on and just the primary is left now!

Sweet!  Congrats on getting it back in the hole.  And very nice padding the gold frame.  Not everyone would have thought of or took the time to do that.

I won't take credit for that padding.  I was doing a search for video's of installing an engine and someone mentioned to do that.  Good idea though.
