2008 CVO Springer in Perth Western Australia
« on: December 15, 2012, 11:27:15 PM »

New bike to me in Perth Western Australia.

Only has one key and one alarm fob

I have asked in other posts on the CVO forum for a way around this "one fob" scenario

And Yes I kinda suspected / knew that it was a "back to the dealer job".

That's the next drama, as the bike didn't come from them !

Indeed it's a used 2008 CVO Springer out of Texas that has wound up in Perth Australia with one key and one fob

Fairly clean bike in  "Black Diamond with smoked candy Flames" showing 10,000 kilometres

The owners handbooks / CVO cover / original exhaust system / all "lost on the way" somewheres ( bummer bummer !!)

The bike has ridiculously noisy Vance and Hines Bigshots. Too loud for me ( and the noise police !!)

The dealers in Western Australia WILL NOT code you a new alarm fob as it's a "grey" imported bike

Any more ideas very welcome !

Also anything I should look out for specific to this model ?  Any hints and or tips for a new CVO Springer owner ?

Thanks in advance gents

Hiya mate
In Qld the dealers have no problems with purple sticker bikes
Some independent custom shops can activate your fob
If your dealers will not order a fob and key for you I am sure there are dealers in other states that would like your money

Craig mate , I'm sure you're right about the Queensland dealers.

Some of them are bringing "greys" in for retail sale so they should have no dramas working on them

All of the WA dealers have elected to supply "no service" to any grey import , of any type at any time .

They won't service / trade / warrant / work on any 1HD vin numbered bike

The dealer in Perth , Frasers , only ever sold 2 of these 2008 CVO Springers when they were new !! ( They were $59 K !!!)

I don't need them for much anyways, doing most all my stuff myself for 15+ years.

However this chit you cannot do yourself !

And the bike and the new fob have to be "together" to code the new fob from the "Digital Technician" or digitech

Unless there's another way ? Hence my quest !

Harley Heaven in Melbourne sell / import heaps of grey imports, they have a good parts division, dont see why they wouldnt help you. Or use the dealer in Texas where you got it.

Job done

Took the bike to a Perth Harley dealership , I didn't say it was a used "Yankee" import , and they didn't ask !

( Another franchised Harley dealer had already refused to code a new alarm fob to/for it as " it was an import !" )

Coded me a new alarm fob to the bike in the workshop using their Digitech , all up cost $100 Australian

Thanks for the suggestions , but they had to have the bike physically present with the new fob to be assigned.

I have bought the Owners manual , Service supplement and parts manual(s) and an original CVO cover all on US eBay

2 other spare "black" keys cut at a security outlet for $32 so now I'm all set and fixed up

Gotta love that folks !

I paid $16:00 for my security fob and no fee for synch to bike
As soon as they see your pink sticker on your down tube they know your bike is an import
Gasoline Alley look after my bike in Qld with no issues about being an import

to Deuce 2004

Yes mate , I know the Qld / Vic / SA dealers will "work" on US bikes , but Frasers in the west ( and Sydney ) will not

Also your 2004 fob is different to the 2007 and up bikes, which have a " proximity " sensor system

Even in the US it's a $70 job to supply and code a new fob !

My " pink sticker" is deliberately well hidden on the inside top frame downtube , not sticking out like dog's balls

Looks like I am lucky to live in Qld
With reference to your pink import sticker in Qld the authorities are very particular about placement
As soon as a dealer does not see the plain metal finish tag attached to your down tube with your bikes details they are aware that it is imported and when they order your proximity fob the vin no comes up as USA sold bike
There are different numbers for local and export
Yeah mate I am aware my 2004 bike has a different security fob to your later model just posted what my experience was

A mate has a 2008 1HD CVO Dyna that he imported and had no issues with local dealer working on it. They still charge you like a wounded bull if its a 1HD or 5HD anyway.

To me it sounds like Frasers are loosing out by not touching 1HD bikes.

To Bretto and Deuce2004

Yes guys , imports could maybe be a problem in the west if you can't " do your own thing " .

Thankfully I'm fairly capable , albeit self taught.

And yes , Frasers are perhaps "spiting themselves" and the local Indy's are LOVING it I know !

I'd be willing to bet that in the last 6 months more used " grey imports" have been sold in WA than used locally supplied bikes !

There are 5 outlets here now with showrooms full of 1HD Harleys . Some of them are "bush pigs" so it's really a case of buyer beware.

I have done "pre-sale" inspections on a few on request from other guys , and I've actually reccomended only a very few !

Still , that's a different topic and best left at that.

6 months on and the CVO Springer is even better as time goes on , over 4000 K's I've covered on it already.

I love it so much 6 weeks ago I sold my 2008 105th Anniversary FXSTC Softail Custom  !

Rare around Perth Western Australia ( but not as "rare" as they used to be obviously ! )

Gets LOTS of good comments when I'm out and about. Most local folks have never seen one before !

Never did change out the V&H Big Shot Staggered , I'm kinda used to them now I suppose, noise level and looks

The bike is quite quick after TTS tuning ( by me !) Hits 180+ WAAY too easily ( That's Km/H folks !!)

Running Redline 20W60 in the engine , Redline Heavy Shockproof in the trans , and Redline MTL in the primary

I searched Australia for over a year before this bike came up in Central Texas

In short , I'm a happy guy with my " new to me " 2008 CVO Springer

One of my good riding buddies just bought the same bike in 105th anniversary colors from an HD dealer in Savannah Georgia and it's on the way to Perth Western Australia as I make this post . He was so impressed with mine y'see..

That's the Western Australia blue sky in the background , we get a LOT of that
