2013 trans drain and refill 28oz instead of full qt?
« on: December 16, 2012, 07:25:46 PM »

On my 2010 limited the manual had drain refill 1 quart for trans.
I just changed the trans oil on my 2013 cvo, and the manual has refill 28oz. I measured 28oz and filled. I will test ride tomorrow, and check dipstick.
How much is usually needed to refill trans when hot?

My 2013 CVO manual says 32 oz, which is a full qt.  I just did mine at 5k and it is fine.

I believe there are two specifications.  The 32 ounce spec is for a dry trans, such as what you would encounter after a complete teardown and overhaul.  The spec for routine drain and fill maintenance is supposedly 28 ounces.  If you would like to verify that spec, the next time you change the trans fluid add exactly 28 ounces and then check it with the dipstick.  Make the check with the bike on the jiffy stand and the dipstick screwed in just until the O-ring touches the case (new method for 2013).

blown alcohol, if you put too much oil in your trans and you need to take some out (which I have done on occassion) , I use a turkey baster with flexible clear tubing on the end to remove a little. However, don't ride it very far if it is overfull. I have heard that could cause a leak. CAHDBIKER

I over filled one of my other bikes and it pushed the oil out of the main seal.  Keep in between the lines on the dip stick!
