Request from our U.K. friends...
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:34:28 PM »

My wife and I are going to be in North Yorkshire for my wife's niece's wedding in mid-April.  After the wedding we will be touring northern England, Scotland by car and then taking a ferry to Belfast where we hope to rent a couple of Street Glides to tour Ireland before taking another ferry from southern Ireland to Wales and continuing to tour by car the south of England before heading back north to Yorkshire.

If you could assist with a few answers and suggestions, it would be most appreciated.

1) What weather can we expect in England, Scotland and Ireland in April and May?
2) If there is a choice, which ferry service do you recommend traveling to and from Ireland?
3) Who is the best to deal with when renting bikes in Ireland?  (Best service and reliable bikes, etc.)
4) What are the "not to miss" places and roads to explore?
5) How much time should we allow ourselves to see all there is to see in Ireland?
6) On this side of the big pond HOG members receive a Touring Handbook of the America's, does HOG have a Touring Handbook for the U.K. and Europe?
6b) If so, how would I go about getting one?  Does HOG Europe have a head office that I can contact?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this over, and I look forward to your assistance with suggestions and answers to ensure us a wonderful trip.

Take care,
Mike

The weather can be very changeable in April, windy, wet, cold, sunshine, warm but probably everything thrown at you. In a word, unpredictable .

Hello Mike I'm a HOG in London hope I'm able to help you & yours out a little here on your quest.
Q6&6b) Yes we have the Europe HOG books here aswell. The contact Address is,
H.O.G. Membership & Rider Services Center, Globe House, 1 Chertsey Road, Twickenham, TW1 1XQ UK
                 Tel: 00 800 1111 2223,  Fax: 00 800 7766 5566,
                    Email: customerservice@hog-europe.com

Q1 weather) That can be a hard one to call. Weather over here can be pretty unpredictable even the weather man blows it. On that you take your chances, if lucks on your side sun if not rain :nixweiss:
Q2 ferry)  That would be out of Wales & depends were you wont to be dropped off, by the way, there is a border there (passports)
Q3 renting) HOG should sort that one for you.
Q4 exspore) Well thats a tall order. There is Sooooo much, I my self have not been there, I'd ride the cost line and towns, villages get away from the tourist traps and you get to meat the real Ireland, you can arrange to rent little cotages along your rout.
Q5 time) If you got the time 2 weeks to ride the cost, depending how you posh.

Hope this helps send a PM if you'd like my Tel. in London be glad to lend a hand were I can. :2vrolijk_21:

         Pete.

Thanks to all for your input.  I have sent P.M.'s, so please have a look.

As mentioned we are still in the planning stage for our visit although we do have our flights booked.  Now we have to decide on how much time we want to spend in each locale including family time before and after the wedding.

Any other info you can share would be welcomed.

Have a wonderful Christmas and thanks again.

Take care,
Grizzly
