« on: September 05, 2006, 06:08:40 PM »

Is 2008 the year they are coming out with the Ultra that has a V-rod engine?

Who knows?  It will happen eventually, I think...but, it's going to have to be the big bore version to make people happy.  There's just light years differences in riding an A/C 103 or 110 and a 1250 W/C Revolution engine...both of them will get you from 0 to 120 MPH (plus some), but it feels really different getting there.  I do think that some variation of the Revolution engine will be the future of HD down the road.  Just my opinion.....

Not the first year, but the second I'll probably buy one. Will surely keep my Cherry though.  [smiley=cherry.gif]

I agree, but my thought is that it'll be around 2010 before we see it

Can't imagine all the development expense that went in to the changes in the 07 motors and transmissions being done if the Twin Cam was slated to be phased out this quickly.  It's still got a few years left in it.

The V-Rod has a 5 gal tank now. Why can't they make a nice little touring bike out of it? One of the nicest tourers I had was a BMW k1100lt smaller size tourer. Does a touring bike really have to be a huge road sofa? I like my Ultra for all the wrong reasons. Just hope to live long enough to enjoy a Harley tourer with some electronics, storage, aerodynamics and performance.I think it would be fun.

Don...I don't think they'll phase the big twins out anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a W/C Revo engine of some higher displacement in some kind of new model "touring bike".  It just makes too much power not to do it.  It may not be something like our bikes, but something akin to a Road Glide in a sportier mode would not surprise me at all no later than 2010.  How about a 1550, 140HP/100FPT W/C Twin with a little more grunt down low and a little less at 9K?

See right side of my bike for Chrome hose cover and water pump cover...braided stainless for the other hose is next on my list when I change radiator fluids.  You can still diamond cut the "fake" colling fins on the cylinders ;) [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

How about a 2012 model CVO ROD GLIDE [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  I'll be ready to trade or put mine in the scap heap by then.

There is a water cooled motor in the development stage as we speak. It will not be a V ROD motor.  PERIOD. It was slated to be released in 2008 but I have not heard anything lately. We all know how the MOCO is on keeping things quite. This motor is being developed to meet the EPA standards.

Don I agree with you on the two cammer being around for a while. The MOCO has put toooo much money into major changes for this motor. If history can repeat itself here the two cammer will be around for a while.

I had a V-Glide. That's a VROD customized with a Road Glide fairing and saddlebags, floorboards, etc. It was a comfortable ride, but that engine is not configured for a touring bike.

I have always loved the looks of the V-Rod and as a bagger it calls to me.  A couple folks have mentioned that the motor is not set up for touring.

What exactly does that mean?  No low end torque?

I am looking for a SS 2002 that I plan to have as a project and am considering the Roadglide fairing.  Wasting my time?

Well I have a street rod and a cvo fatboy103 sert tuned engine with thunderheaders and belive me revo engine is much more powerfull.I dont think the engine power should be a problem but imho ergonomics of the vrod is not exactly what you expect from a tourer. The stance of the rod is just not suitable for a bagger look bike.MoCo should come up with a totaly new concept to place revo bagger on top of bimmers and wings.Thats a leauge of its own to start with and none of those bikes should even be compared to our good old big twin baggers.I know bunch of people keeping a harley tourer and a bimmer or wing in the stable. The next big tourer should be extremely technological with all gizmos and with a grand stance on the road and should be able to diversify it self from what a real harley is and hit the euro-jap tourers markets.I know I will always have a aircooled big twin made by harley and it would be nice to have another bike with the appropriate tag on the tank that would smoke others both in size and performance. That was the reason i bought the street rod in first place and i love it when guys on crotch rockets go nuts when a harley keeps up with them on the highway.By the way victory is already developing concepts for a tourer i think moco should go with the same approach at least desing vise for the revo tourer. http://www.polarisindustries.com/concepts/
