Monster Ovals
« on: December 19, 2012, 01:18:13 PM »

My wife is going to ban me from this site, it seems that every time I log in I find new things to add to the bike.  I recently purchased a near new set of Monster Ovals on Ebay and installed them on my bike today.  Easy installation about a 2 hour job. I was originally running Power Duals and stock mufflers it was just a little too quiet for me.  A snow storm is rolling in on us so I only got about 20 miles in today.  Because it is in the 20's I wore a full face helmet and I was surprised at how loud they are in town.  My full face seems amplify certain tones hopefully this is the case with the mufflers.  I was however pleasantly surprised how they mellow out and quiet down when running 70-75.  BSR has not been on it yet so we will have the true test after the storm passes and roads clear up again.   Anybody else running this set up and what are your thoughts on the sound level on long trips?

I also have the MOs.  My experience has been similar.  I usually wear a half-helmet, but use a full-face in heavy rain.  The FF seems to amplify the exhaust sound all the time, while the half allows more wind noise (maybe the wind noise is masking the exhaust?).  Either way, I use ear protection (isolation ear buds or foam plugs, depending on which bike) on any ride longer than an in-town runaround, so I can't say about a long-haul.

Good luck with finding you sweet spot on this issue.

I had the Monster Ovals and Power Duals on my 2010 Ultra Limited.  A friend who hated my 2005 Dyna with a stage 3 95 inch engine and V&H 2 into 1 Pro pipe like the Power Dual/Monster Oval combo.  I loved the sound from the Monster Ovals and Power Duals.

I had the power duals and monster ovals on 2010 ultra ltd, also had a cam upgrade. My wife found them too loud for her, she definitely didn't like them.

I had that set up on my 2011 Road Glide Ultra, which has the 103" motor.  I liked the sound a lot.  Very nice tone, but not loud.  My only complaint about the Monster Ovals is that they are so big that you can bottom them out.  I know - I did it, and the RGU is not lowered in the rear like the CVO bikes are.
