SERT Knowledge Wanted
« on: September 05, 2006, 10:02:32 PM »

There are probably a gazillion SERT threads onsite. But maybe some could clarify some concepts for me? Some things I have read:

There is no stock program available in SERT.

No way to save old data.

Questions: Can SERT be installed without downloading any maps on a stock bike? I understand the SERT can record realtime data. I wan't to try this. Don't want to download any maps. But I guess I need to marry the SERT to the ECM which if non-destructive is ok.

Can SERT read the existing data without wiping it out?

Could the existing (stock) data be printed to hard copy. If no provision from hd why not some windows tool to do a prinstscreen kind of thing?

So I guess I bought the bike but Harley owns the stock ECM code. Why does this bother me?

Can only answer one of your questions and that is the one about data being printed to hard copy. What I do/did is when I have a new map created for any mods I have them put a copy of the new map on a disc for me. They also save a copy of the map on the dyno computer at dealer (don't know for how long though).

Thanks! that has been my experience as well. Had dealer install SERT and then run dyno . I supplied the disk. On this bike I wanted to install the SERT myself. But really the question is how the heck do you get the original data in the ECM to disk? I follow you on being able to save the subsequent mods. It just bugs me about the original data not being able to be backed up. Of course a lot of people would suggest that the orignal data not worth the time anyway.

FX,

There is no way at this time to pull data out if your tuner did not give it to you at the time of programming / tuning.   You can install the Race Tuner without loading a map for data collection.

You install the software to your PC.  Then upload what you want.  IF the dealer already uploaded and adjusted a calibration, just get a copy or have them print out all tables and you can re-create a file on your PC.

Good answer to your own question.  The original would seem to be worthless since it is generally lean and complies with EPA standards.

I have to ask the question also, but in my case i think I have a valid reason for wanting the original calibration.

I am curently putting my wifes Deluxe up for sale in total bone stock trim, reason is this bike holds a decent value. With putting the stock pipes/air cleaner back on how could I obtain the origanal calibration file as I dont see any on the disk?

Is the only way to have the dealer load a calibration in it or is their a way to get the file and us my RT?

Any comments here?????

If not I guess I would just come up with the closest map on the cd and see if being too rich will achieve acceptable performance, worth a try I guess.

I think the original is lost.  Have you checked with a dealer?  If not, try calling Nick at this shop:
 http://www.turboyourharley.com/home.asp

He is a great guy and very knowlegeable and always willing to help.  He is located in AZ.  He does other high performance stuff but performs dynos on regular stuff too.
I suspect you could load something close and then see if you can get a baseline dyno (some dealer will do one for $35) and AFR reading to see how close it.  Good luck
