Christmas 2012 in Yosemite.....
« on: December 26, 2012, 02:49:42 PM »

can't wait to be able to spend a few weeks in Yellowstone in the winter....to watch the wolves play in the snow.  For now, we just have to settle for Yosemite and other wildlife.  Come on along....we'll share our Christmas with you.....

Not much of a "wild life" (although she can be a hand full at times), our little girl Molly found the bed at the Best Western in Mariposa quite comfortable Christmas Eve night...

There was an abundence of wildlife.  Or is that because there just weren't many vehicles and so they were out more.  Whatever the reason, they sure weren't afraid of my F-250 diesel....

Many of you will recognize Bridalveil Falls.  What you'll not recognize is the empty parking lots. ;)  We really, really appreciated that aspect of this trip.  Yosemite is one of those places that you want to visit all four seasons because it's distinctly different each of the four seasons.

As we came around a curve I spotted the coyote in the road ahead.  I stopped the truck and grabbed my camera....wanted to see how close she'd get....

I believe she's going to come right up to us.....

She does.....within ten feet or so....

No handouts here.....she moved on....    What a beautiful dog!

Some of the waterfalls look like they're frozen in motion....

Molly likes to think she's wildlife.....as long as we're close by....

These guys get pretty big up here....and loud.  He was a begger....followed me back up from the river, kept squawking, wanting something to eat.  This photo was taken after I got back in my truck.  I believe he would have came in but Molly was making as much noise inside the truck as this guy was outside.  I believe it was animal speak.....

There's still a little water flowing over the side....

Molly's having a bad hair day.....but it doesn't slow her down.

The little chapel in Yosemite valley floor......

Ice skating in Yosemite on Christmas day.  Not many can claim to have done that.....

Warming fire included....

The Awhanahee Hotel....

More wild life.  To busy eating to notice us.....

Several deer crossing the Merced River (two visable just to the right of center.....two others behind the bushes just to the left of center).

another coyote laying out in the middle of the meadow.....

For those of you that have been to Yosemite.....this is at the Crane Flat gas station.....

You really captured the beauty of the Yosemite winter with these photos. Great pics!

Looks like you two were really enjoying it there with Molly.

The benefit of the 4wd in the Sierras is apparent.  I had to take off the all weather and put more aggressive mud/snow tires on the Suburban to really get around on the snowy roads.

You now need to head over the top on Hwy-88 to Grover Hot Springs in Markleeville, or you probably know of a better hot springs somewhere you can share with us.

Happy Holidays

 Beautiful pictures  :2vrolijk_21:
National Park, nature, snow, Christmas what a perfect combo. You can enjoy the simple things in life without all of the hustle and bustle.

Yosemite is one of my favorite destinations and perhaps the most beautiful place on earth.  I've been there in the winter and it's amazing!   I'll be heading back there in June 2013.  Great Photos.  Thanks for sharing.

Yea, she was to Spyder.  That's why she kept her little fat butt back away from the edge.  She's a pretty smart dog but contrary to Terrie's belief, Molly doesn't know the alphabet backwards.   ;D

Now I may be incorrect but you seen to take the most interesting journeys on Christmas Day!  And yet again another striking one to be had by all.  One of the more interesting elements of this one was I had just reviewed some photographs of our trips to this area earlier today.  However now of them looked like these beauties!  Thanks for taking me along as I am certain I would have never experienced anything quite like this in person.

By the way...no skating for you and Terrie?  I understand Molly but...  ;)  :D
