2013 CVO Ultra oil pressure
« on: December 26, 2012, 07:09:43 PM »

OK so I only have under 500 miles on my new bike so far, but the oil pressure when it is warm and I am running down the highway at 60 or so is running around 40 psig.  Is this normal for a 2013?  My 2009 would run right around 32 psig at the same speed, or engine rpm.  I know it is not broken in, but I don't remember my '09 doing this when it was new.

Does it go down a little when it gets warm?
If so I would think its o.k.
To high and to low can be a prob.
Maybe your engine was made on a Wednesday instead of Monday or Friday.
HAHA
Good luck and enjoy

What is the actual oil temperature and rpm when you're getting that 40 psi reading?  Even though you're in Georgia, ambient temps are still probably much lower than what most of us see in the summer.

I'm not aware of any change made for 2013 that would alter the normal specified oil pressure.  Last time I looked the Harley spec was 30-38 psi at normal oil temperature (230°F) and with rpm's of 2000 or more.  Higher rpm's will create higher pressure, and lower oil temperatures will do the same.  Over the years most of us have had normal cruising speed oil pressure pretty close to 32 on the gauge, plus or minus maybe 2 psi.

If you continue to see 40 psi with the engine oil up to normal operating temperature and running 2000-2500 rpm, I'd suggest having the dealership test the gauge for accuracy.   It's a very simple procedure to use a T fitting to insert a real certified mechanics pressure gauge between the engine case and the oil pressure sending unit so they can directly compare the real pressure to what is displayed on the dash gauge.  Harley gauges are not exactly world renowned for accuracy btw.  At least then you will know if the reading is real.  Btw, what is the gauge reading at idle with the engine up to temp?

My CVO's (oil pressure) run a little higher in the cooler weather.
