Tour pack relocation
« on: December 30, 2012, 01:09:32 PM »

Because of the lumbar support on the 2013 CVO Ultras the back seat is pretty tight, I believe 2012 has a similar issue.  I have read bits and pieces in regards to the George Anderson relocation kit and the Kuryakan kit but not a direct comparison.  Does anyone have an opinion on which is the better way to go?  I realize the Anderson kit is fixed (nonadjustable) and the Kuryakan is adjustable but not sure if I would ever move it once it is set.  She is fairly small so I only need to move it about 1.5 inches.  They appear to be about the same cost so that is a non issue.  Any thoughts?

Been using the Kuryakan setup for 3+ years now. Once ajusted and locked down, no rattles. While this does not apply to your needs it can also be used as a quick change allowing you to swap tour packs to diff mounts, etc. if the need arrises.

I had the George Anderson bracket on my 2006 and loved it. great solid quality product and George is great to deal with. Back in 2006 the other brand could NOT be used with the amp under the bracket so George's was the only way to go then.

I have the Kury kit on my 10 SEUC. I was able to install the hardware after work one evening, I did have my wife help hold the TP while disassembling and reassembly. I used the fasteners included in the kit. I set the TP all the way to the far back setting and my wife really like the extra room, even though she is just a little gal.
After installing the relocation kit and riding a few miles I noticed that the bolts meant to keep the TP adjustable and in place were worked loose, so I replaced them with different bolts, washers and lock tight since I don't plan to move the TP until I make it removable. The only other issue I have is that the TP vibrates/wiggles in the wind when I ride one up. I'm not sure that there is anything I can do to eliminate that movement but I sure would like it to stop shaking when riding solo. Overall statisfied with the kit.

I imagine the vibration or wiggling could irritate a person pretty fast.  I wonder if it catches more wind when it is moved back that far?  Did you put a filler in for the space behind the seat?

No, i haven't added anything between the TP and seat there really isn't a big gap to cover. The TP vibration doesn't effect handling its just an irritation in the mirror. I think the vibration is a direct result of the TP being moved back it just catches so much more wind.

Hope you can find 2 bikes to look at before you decide. I will bet you go with the G.A. Never heard the first complaint about it. Can't say that about Kury!!!!!

I was able to see a Kuryakan on a new CVO Ultra the other day, unfortunately the owner had over tightended the bolts and when he tried to show me how it moved it was stuck.  He had to get a screwdriver and pry a washer up to get it to move.  I understand he may have been overzealous in cranking it down so I do not fault the system.  I am unsure if I would ever move it once it is set in place.
Has anyone encountered handling issues with the tour pack moved to the farthest position back?  We travel quite a bit and often go into the Rockies or Black Hills and I would hate to cause any issues with handling.

I have the George Anderson in the furthest back location and have had no problems. I got it the first week I had the bike, so I really can't compare to before that, but I have no handling issues. My wife liked it but didn't like the gap so I got a filler pad. No complaints since then. I haven't seen the Kury but I had heard that the Kury didn't work with the amp under the TP. If I had to do over I'd do the same.

I have the Kury and it works well. Haven't had any problem with turbulence, never even noticed it was back there while riding. I ride both 1 and 2 up equally and slide it up when alone, keeps the weight balanced over the rear wheel. Slide it back when the wife is with me.

I went with George's. Moved my seat back about 1 1/2". Set it and have never felt like I needed to change it. I agree that there is not enough room for the passenger. My wife finds it much more comfortable now. Haven't really noticed any compromise on handling. Hope this helps.
