Don't leave home without your key fob
« on: September 06, 2006, 08:38:24 PM »

OK so I take the new '07 cuse2 (r/b) out tonight to put some break in miles on it. I go about 15 miles and stop for fuel. After putting gas in the bike I hop back on to head out again. Holy crap, lights start flashing alarms start barking...what the heck. I can't get it to stop. Then I realize I forgot my key at home. Now I'm drawing a crowd. I got three old ladies that look like the golden girls standing there giving me dirty looks. "Can't you shut it off" ones says. I said look Maude if I could don't you think I would. The bike is locked down now. No start, no nothing. Just the darn alarm screeming at me.  So I call the wife and asked her to bring my key to me. Man that bikes alarm and lights kept going off for about 15 minutes. Finally it stopped. When my wife showed up with the key fob all was good. Started right up and rode it home. Question 1 am I a moron? Yes obviously, don't forget your key stupid. Question 2 is how did the bike let me start it without the key fob and how did it let me ride it for 15 miles without a sound?

WVRDKING.  I think your right about the pin code. I'll have to look that up in my owners manual. I will make sure I do that before I head out again.  As far as the key being close when I started up the bike I think your right again.  The key was hanging in the laundry room on the other side of the wall from were I park the bike in the garage.

Yep, I went through the painful process of programming mine so that I could disarm it using the turn signals. But don't ask me what the code is. I remember I wrote it down somewhere. I'm not sure where but I'm sure I put it in a good place. But thats not the point. Mines all set up.

I'm not so sure I'm going to like that feature.

The defaullt code is 1-1-1-1-1. It takes a little practice to learn how to enter your pin # but once you know how it only takes a few seconds. Be sure and reset the pin to a personal 5 digit code that you can remember such as the first 5 digits of your ss#, DOB, etc.
Even if you carry the fob w/ you, you never know when the key fob battery might go dead or you might even lose the fob while on a long trip away from home (where momma can't come and bail you out of trouble). It's real simple to learn how to disarm the system manually w/ a little practice. I like the feature because you can carry the fob in your pocket and it automatically arms the alarm when you walk away from the bike. Just lock the bags w/ the electric switch on the dash (fairing) and I don't even bother to lock anything w/ the key because if anyone messes w/ the bike the alarm goes off and disables the electrical system.

Thanks to all for your help. I will program my personal PIN code tonight before my next adventure. Man I could have saved a lot of trouble if I had done it before last night's ride. Maybe that's what Maude was yelling at me? When she said "Can't you shut that thing off"  She was probably thinking under her breath...that idiot doesn't know his PIN code, everybody knows you can disarm an '07 security system by punching in your PIN code.

Also, there's a plastic coated card in the back of the owner's manual (at least on the 06's) where you can write down your code in case you forget, and also has instructions on how to enter the code...you can keep this card in your wallet.

Before I take any HD touring bike (steal) I always look in the tour pack for this information. It makes taking the Ultra so much easier to steal than any other HD.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Indeed!  Most stolen wallets do not contain $32,000!
