Tour pack relocator
« on: September 06, 2006, 11:58:05 PM »

Can you use the tour pack relocator on the detachable rack? I only see it for the fixed rack and wonder if anyone has tried to  use it on the detachable. Any info is greatly appreciated.

If your talking about the one from George Anderson it will bolt up to the detachable rack as the hole pattern is the same.
Where can I find this George Anderson kit?

I have one from George.  Didn't fit quite right.  He drilled and tapped the holes for the mount to the detachable plate too far to the outside edge of the adapter plate so it puts a bow in the detachable plate and I had to widen the holes a trifle to get the bolts in.  Other than needing some attention to the fit, the item did work, just not as slick as I expected.

I am going to send him a template of the top of the detachable plate as soon as I finish my kitchen and have some time to screw with it...(unless somebody here would actually like to have one that fits, and will send him the template themselves...hint hint....)

I finally got around to getting my relocation kit from George Anderson this week.  Called him Thursday, had it in my hands Monday and put it on last night.

Every hole was dead on, all fasteners (color coded) included and a right handy installation sheet including a detailed drawing.  The quality of the part is top shelf and the most important thing

By the way the plate moves the pack back 1 1/4" or 2 1/2" from the furthest rear stock position.

I recommend this kit highly if you need one.

I had one of George's first kits and it was dead on. Now Wendy won't let me take the tour pack off...she's got 2 inches more room.

Of course she's always said.."the difference between oh and ah are about 2 inches..." ::)

Thanks Guys!!!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  I called George this morning and he's shipping me the kit today....the wife will be thrilled I'm sure.  It's just what Iv'e been looking for.  According to George with the kit I can move the tour pak back either 1.25 inches or over 2 inches. He said all bolts are color coded and it comes with written instructions plus a diagram.  So maybe even I can install it !!!
thanks again.  [smiley=cherry.gif]

Yes, I have the detachable and made sure George knew that.  I bought it ($112) based on the success others on the thread had with it.  I'll take pics and post as soon as I can.  Traveling next 2 weeks.

Does moving it back affect the handling of the bike, when it's loaded and your passenger is on?  What about the high speed wobble thing.....does it increase or decrease with the tour pack relocator on? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I installed George's bracket yesterday (Sat). IF you have a 05 SEEG with the detachable chopped tour
pak his bolts will not be long enough.  After 3 calls to George (very nice and patient guy) and a quick trip to Home Depot (for longer bolts) the bracket was installed.  Today my wife and I rode 196 miles and she was very happy with the mod.  I had no feeling of heavier weight or any balance problems. I installed the bracket with the 1.25 inch added instead of the 2.5.  My wife said that was plenty.
If you install this bracket you have to use the existing U shaped bracket along with the detachable
chrome rack.  What George sent was for a Ultra I assume.  Anyway all is well if the wife is comfy.
All I need now is a more comfy seat for her. ;)
