that depends - what do you want the knife for?

If it's just for opening a bottle of wine, eating or other typical camping purposes I personally use a Laguiole or Puma. But there is such an abundant multitude of good manufacturers, styles, materials - tastes, you may get a different answer from each and everybody you ask this question   ::)

If you're looking for a folder that can be drawn quickly, consider Spyderco's very popular line of Delica knives, equipped with an "Emerson Wave".

I've been a knife instructor for many years and had used the traditional version of the Delica for a long time, about three years ago they came out with a waved version, it is closed like a regular pocket knife, but can be drawn and deployed as quickly as a switchblade.

There are a couple of companies that utilise this design now, and brand choice is limited.

Wave blades unlike switchblades or centrifugal force knives (flick or butterfly), are not considered prohibited weapons under the Canadian Criminal Code, so it's OK to have them on your person, as long as you don't tell the police you have it for your protection or safety... knives are just tools unless you are interested in obtaining a criminal record.

Here is a demo on the drawing possibilities:

If you don't have a distributor in your area they can be purchased directly from the manufacturer or by sellers on eBay... many of which prefer only PayPal transactions!

This blade configuration also has another valuable use:

Thanks everyone for your responses, I am mainly looking for opinions on the knives you have used / purchased and what you think. It use to be easy, you couldn't go wrong with a Buck, now I am told the quality has gone down hill since the early 1990's.
So your opinions are certainly appreciated.

+2 on Kershaw. Best , Sharpest Knives I ever owned.. Outdoor World ? Bass Pro now stocks them as well in all their stores and inexpensive. I broke my blade tip doing something I shouldn't have and sen it to Kershaw and they sent it back two weeks later , brand new blade razor sharp.

Wow, tough question. I can't answer with just one knife. There are several factors depends on what I am doing. I always have a knife on my person sometimes more than one. It almost always clips inside a pocket. The knife could range from a Frost Cutlery $15.00 or less to a Kershaw.I carry the less expensive knives while working. I don't usually carry a heavy knife. I don't think any of mine would be considered expensive. There are a lot of good knifes to chose from. This place has a large inventory.  www.horizonbladeworks.com        Good luck.

I carried a Lakota folding knife for years, very durable knife. From what I can see the company is out of business now though. Gerber makes great knives as well as Spyderco.
For a sheath knife it is hard to beat a Randall , they are made for various uses and you can customize them.  Problem is they are expensive and have a long wait time. (about 4 1/2 years.)
