Static in all speakers when radio is off
« on: January 02, 2013, 07:30:29 PM »

2013 CVO Road Glide:

I noticed that if I have my bike's ignition on or have it on accessory and turn off the radio; that there is a low level of static throughout all of the speakers.  Do all CVOs have this and if so is it because of something like the amps always being powered?  I wasn't sure if the amps were switched to the radio so I was surprised to hear this static noise with the radio off.  I asked the dealer to look into this while I had the bike in for other service and they told me all current CVOs do this apparently.  Its seemed odd to me so I figured I would ask the other CVO owners.

I tried the same test on a 2013 Road Glide (non-CVO) and it did not have this same behavior.

Ya - they all do it -
unbelievable they gave that answer - talk about ruining the company's reputation (and their own) ... & I hope it isn't true

btw my GM truck had that issue and they had to replace the stereo amp for being defective ... building up static discharge even with the key off (or something like that)

I found out that when I moved my cell phone away from the radio the noise went away. I also noticed the noise in my home sound base speaker when I set my phone. on it.

No cell phone was involved in this scenario.  It has static without any other known interference with the radio off.  I checked the spark plug connections / wires to make sure they were snug and was wondering if there was a faulty ground somewhere they may be contributing to this.  That is why I brought it to the dealership to look into.

Anyone with a 2012 CVO Street Glide or 2013 CVO Road Glide that could try out this experiment and let me know the results?

1.)  Turn your bike ignition on
2.)  Turn off your radio
3.)  Put your ear down to the speakers (front and/or saddlebag speakers) and listen for any static

Report back your findings to this post.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
David

I've performed your test with a 2013 CVO Road Glide Custom Anniversary Edition & I'm experiencing the same issue with low level static on all speakers.

Just did your test on my '12 SG...and, yes, it does have a very low amount of static, almost wouldn't notice it if you were not looking for it. For me, I'm not sure if it'll be an issue as I rarely ever have the stereo turned off....but, you'd think OFF would really be OFF!
