Removable Tour Pak on the 2013 ultra glides
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:30:30 AM »

Ok, i have yet another topic i need help with again.. as i mentioned before i have the 13 UG, I am looking into making the tour pak removable, however the amp causes the problem, once the tour pak is removed, i was told, you loose ALL your speakers. unless you can relocate the amp. what I am looking to do is put speakers in the lowers as well as making my tour pak removable. and of course have my sound.. i was told by HD that the only way for this to be done is to relocate the amp to the saddle bags, to me thats unacceptable... has anyone done this to their bike???

You can change amps and put it under the fairing but you will still loose space with speakers in bags.

Hello Mikeywings

I had Jim (hd dude) from Metal Dragon make my tour pack removable. He installed a Hawgwire amp in my fairing and it sounds great. I know others have put speakers in the lowwers and even saddlebags.

Jim is a great guy , he will help you !

I had my rear amp yanked out and a new 4 channel arc audio amp put in the fairing.  That would make your TP a lot easier to remove and you can add speakers everywhere. Arc makes a great amp and get some good speakers and you'll be set.   I went with Focals and I love em.    YOu won't believe the difference    Stuart

Can the rear amp be relocated to the fairing or is it too big?

Just curious, I added a tourpak to my Heritage (my SEUC is on the way) and I loved it, used it all the time. What is the reason for wanting to remove the tourpak? Is it just to change the look of the bike or is there a functional reason?

When I had my '08 Ultra, I pretty much could turn it into a SG in about 15 minutes.......now, with the '12 SG,  5 minutes and it's almost an Ultra.  Other than the looks, it seems to be 'sportier' and less top-heavy without the TP. (an even bigger difference since you have speakers on it and drop the amps to the bags)

When I use my FLHTK in the summer, I enjoy it without the tour pack and lowers. Don't need to carry a lot of stuff on day rides and is much cooler without the lowers. I replace the TP with a passenger backrest (med height I think) and a detachable luggage rack above the rear fender. Looks good. My antennaes are relocated using the CVO street glide antennae mount on the left side and a custom fab duplicate on the right for the cb. If I need to pack multi-day, I use a T-bag that slips over the passenger backrest and sits on the passenger seat. Like having two bikes in one. I like the balance with the TP off, lighter feel. Cold weather season with the TP on leaves me a dresser the way it was meant to be, a nice change for a little while.        JoeS

I have 2013 Tribal orange and my dealer is currently modifying my bike so that my tour Pak will now be detachable.  Also he is installing Boom speakers in my lower fearing along with the needed extra amp.  Both my amps will now be in the saddle bags and while being at it I did ask him to relocate my antenna in the fearing.  I also bought a new FLHX seat to put on when I will be driving without the tour Pak.  My dealer told me that they tried to relocate the amp in the fearing but it would not fit...  I wonder what will be my final bill....  :confused5:

Could have had an Arc Audio amp.  Putting that stock suff back in and relocating it and paying to have that done makes no sense to me.   I have my stock amps.  anyone want them cheap? :nixweiss:

I am currently in the process of making my tour pak removable on my 2013 ultra cvo. I noticed everyone's concern seems to be where to locate the amp. My thought was to locate it on the down tubes right behing the front wheel. That is where my amp for my heritage was located. Alot smaller amp but the functionality was great. Putting it in the saddle bags concerns me with the over heating aspect. And I'm sure over time that the amp will burn up putting it in the saddle bags. Any thoughts on this?

I have mine mounted in the saddle bad zero issues...  I was concerned as well but the temps seem to stay consistent and I have not had a cutout from the amp due to heat.  Many miles in 90+ heat.
