A brand new noise.
« on: September 07, 2006, 06:58:32 PM »

Remember as a kid you would whirl something thin like a long cord through the air and make a kind of whirling sound? That was great as a kid, but not so good when that sound comes from your bike. It is coming from the back end somewhere. When the bike warms up. In all gears and with or without rear brake applied. Let the bike cool...it stops. It is also only above say 10 mph.
I have an appointment on the 14th to have it looked at so I will let you all know what they find.

I assume you inspected the drive belt for wear?

Sounds like it's too tight (the drive belt that is).  Thats the type of sound a blower makes with one of them big a$$ 4" belts on it.....and the sound this skinny little belt makes when it's too tight.

The SE Vrods are known for this if the belt is too tight...mine was making a "chirping" noise, but has since loosened up enough to stop.  So far the Ultra has not made any strange noises.

My SEEG came back from the shop sounding more like a siren the faster I went.  One of the techs stopped by my house and readjusted the tension on the belt and the sound hasn't been back.

Incidentally, he brought a tool with him that measured belt tension....seems they may not have used it the first time...

Did the 06 SE Ultra have the Automatic Primary Chain Tension Adjuster. If so i think that may be your noise.

There is no chain tentioner on the bike. The noice is only there when the bike warms up. My thought is that as it warms the belt strecces and becomes looser, so I am not sure that is it. You guys may very well be right though. I'll let the dealer have a go at it in the morning.
Thanx for your inptu!
