Oil filter mess
« on: January 07, 2013, 05:34:39 PM »

We all know what a mess it can be to remove the oil filter. I am sure there are several people who have designed something of their own. Found this one on amazon. Kind of pricey but it does the job. What do you use?

I've got one similar to this from Harley.  I don't like it.  Before my next oil change I am going to make something...probably out of tin.

I find the HD one to work fine....but, after putting it in place, I drill a small hole in the OF and let it drain for a few hours, or over-night....minimal mess.

I have a similar one, and if you look at it, it will drain into the left lower, if you don't hold it!!!
This thing should drain to the right, not the left.
I cut a 24 oz soda bottle in the same shape, leaving the cap on, and have NO leaks while
waiting for the filter to drain.

Loosen filter with wrench. (Stop before it leaks)  Take a 1 gallon zip lock bag and slide completely over and under filter.  Grab (now loosened) filter with hand on outside of bag, spin until filter falls into bag. Remove, close zip lock bag.  Discard  :2vrolijk_21:

heartshot, X2 on the aluminum foil, I have also cut out a empty gallon milk jug to fit,( works better on my Evo) but sometimes that tends to slip. One thing for sure is I stuff  a small rag under filter, not too big just enought to fit under and let me get the filter off. As long as my hands don't slip no problem. I like localprez one gallon zip lock idea. I am going to try that next time.
