Procedure for pulling Maxi fuse w/Alarm?
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:26:14 PM »

I did do a search but I did not come up with anything I feel comfortable with.  I do no how to disconnect everything when I did it wrong last time!  My owners manual gives one procedure & the repair manual gives another, unless I'm reading it wrong.  If I remember correctly I put the switch on the bars to RUN and put the switch on the tank to on and pull it withing 5 seconds.  Is that correct?  Is their any sequence that could set it off?

Thanks

Turn the bike on (run stop position does not matter) then pull the fuse.
The alarm will go off if you pull the fuse with the bike off.

I took the battery out of mine for the winter and the manual said nothing about pulling the Maxi fuse. The tech at the shop said to do it just like above, On, pull fuse, remove battery. I am sure that the reinstall works the same way, On, install battery, install Maxi fuse.

The little book only covers the basics.

No need to turn ignition to 'on' when reinstalling. Reason you turn it 'on' when pulling fuse is so the alarm will disable itself before you pull the fuse (must have fob nearby before turning ignition on).

Good point, thanks!  I pulled the battery like the owners manual stated "without reference to the maxi fuse" and the neg cable sparked like crazy. Figured there was a better way. ;)

So, this poses a question for me.  Can I do the same to trailer the bike? Going to go to Fl for a month & not going to ride in 12* weather.

just put your security in transport mode.  this will allow you to have security if anyone tries to start your bike, but will not activate the motion detector function.  this is only good for one ignition cycle, so if you start your bike, or turn your ignition on for any reason, you have to do it again.  good news, it's not difficult.

turn ignition switch to ignition
engine stop switch to off
with the fob handy, turn your ignition switch to acc
press both left and right turn signals within 5 secs
after turn signals flash once, turn ignition switch to off

it will confirm by blinking your turn signals three times.

to cancel transport mode, turn ignition on, and engine run/stop to run.
