Powerpack 103 vs CVO 110
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:11:10 PM »

What are the differences between the powerpack 103 and 110 CVO engines?  Engine internals, heads and power advantages?  And what would it take to make a 110 from a 103?

Heads,Pistons,Pushrods,Race Tuner and good cam will get you close. Can't get to a 110 from 103 without Crank. Sell your 103 on ebay or craigslist and buy a 110 or a 120R if you want extreme. Your Going to put that money in to building the 103 with what I listed and your pipes and Breather .The only thing I didn't like about the 120R's I have driven is the clutch is a bear in traffic and Im a former Power lifter and still in my 40's and go to the gym alot at 6'1 225lbs. Just my opinion and Iv'e had them all 88  96 103 ( Built ) and 110. Lot of guys bad mouth the 110 here wich confuses me because almost everyone has one and there on their second and third one to boot. I only have 2000 miles on this 110 with headers, pipe, heavy breather and race tuner and I am a believer. Smooth, Cool, strong and plenty of power.

You can buy the kit that would convert your Power Pak 103 to a CVO 110, see attachment (click on it to enlarge).  It will require boring the cases for the spigots of the larger jugs.  IMHO, you'd be better off consulting a good engine builder about a complete coordinated build, but if you want to stick with an official Harley street legal kit this would be the one.

I rode a 2012 SG punched out to 107 using a kit from Hal's HD...

Makes 111/111 with a conservative tune and will light the tire up with little effort even with my 320 lbs on it. Hal's claim is 115/115 but like I said.. it made 111/111 here with a conservative tune. The tech that did the build locally said there's more in it, but they wanted to assure it was "broken in" before they tried to fine tune it...

It was pricey... but apparently goes like HECK!

So the heads are not the same?  Do the come with the CNC heads?

If you already have the powerpack 103

You would have to bore the cases to go 110 so why not go 113 or 114 and have a custom set of pistons made to set the compression where you want without milling the heads to high heaven.

The 103 heads do not require much work to get them to flow well  :2vrolijk_21:

The heads are different and like other MOCO heads if you want more out of them they need to go to a speed shop and be worked ( CNC) ported. Like a previous guy said cases would have to be re-worked to accept the 110 kit. 15K is a ton of money to make that transformation. You can buy a year or two old entire Road Glide or Streetglide with a 103 for 15K and it will have mods. Like I said before, there are Shops on this forum that would do a complete 120R worked with heads, cams etc..Tuned, installed ,whole 9 yards and get you 130HP and Torque for about 10K. Give or take.. Or do the Turbo kit for 5-6 K and have the power when you need it like Fangoul did on his streetglide. SO Many options if you have the Cash.

I caught it, don't think he did though. You got the motor and all the goodys for 15k. I did the same going from an 09 FLHX 96" to my 12 CVO FLHXSE3 costed me about 17k though. Worth every penny IMO

103 and 110 both use the 4 3/8ths stroke crank with the 110 being a 4 inch bore and the 103 being 3.875
for the money spent you would get the best return from spending the money on a really good 107 combo and put dollars saved on case teardown and bore to get some top shelf headwork and a good set of cams. Check out the wood 888 107 sheet here http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=79605.0

You can have plenty of juice from even a 103"er, set up correctly.
A PA dyno has had one of our carbed 103"s, yeeeears ago, at 119/119. Not a big effort to establish that.
But if your going to bore the cases, to accomodate the 110" cylinders, no reason not to go to a 117"er.
