V&H Hi Output Exhaust with X pipe.
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:03:41 PM »

Does anyone else have this set up. Have had this set up for awhile and recently had some motor work done.
I have noticed the discharge air on the right side pipe is a lot cooler than the left(pipe which runs under and back). This is sometimes 50+ degrees different. The cylinders are within 2 degrees anywhere I check but the discharge air bothers me. The heat even discolors the left tip and not the right. I did email V&H and they said this is normal due to the extra bends on the left. I guess I just can't wrap my head around it. Your input please.

:2vrolijk_21:The airflow to the right side pipe has less static pressure and will run hotter than the under and back pipe. Plus the extra length of the under pipe allows more radiated cooling as the air flows past.

I run the HO pipes with the defatted stock header and find the same thing.

I love the sound of this setup!

Mine is the opposite from what you describe. My straight pipe is the cool one. Love the sound and performance just curious about temps.

pkl - I have the exact same set up.  I ran the bike with the map Steve supplied with X pipe and then had the bike dyno tuned a few months later.  Left side discolored the same with both, could not tell any difference.  Right side would not discolor.  I like the sound of this set up but the left side discoloring is a constant pain.  Started carrying a small bottle of chrome cleaner and an old rag.  I have not done any temp checks.

Everyone is having the same results so I guess it must be ok. Checked another one yesterday with same results. Guess I'll be carrying chrome cleaner also.
