2011 FLHXSE2 Right Side Speaker cuts out
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:50:52 PM »

As the title says, the Right speaker cuts out all the time (only when riding, so I can't tell if its the speaker in the fairing, lower or tweeter/all of the above). Does it with both the radio and the iPod. Took it to the Harley dealer (2 months out of warranty of course) and they charge me $105 and say that can't find the problem. It was doing it all the way to the dealer, and all the way home (and every since) but they say they can't duplicate the problem. I've heard about some inherent problem with the early '11 Amps. Lookin' to se if anyone else has had this problem.

Has to be either the connections (crimps), Amp or head unit right? Ideas? Thanks, Bob

Remove the amp from the system and see if the defect still exists.
We've seen that defect with both the amp and head unit.

I had the same problem on my bike, turned out to be the head unit. I was told by me dealer this was a common problem. $50 to fix on extended warranty. Iron cross would be my resource now.

I had that problem on my left side speakers.  HD told me it was the speakers bottoming out higher volumes. :nixweiss:
I knew different so to humor him I replaced the speakers.......same chit..........
I replaced all HD amps with aftermarket ones and now all is fine. :orange:

Good luck, Rich

I know it is totally subjective, but which Amp did you go with? EZ install/plug & play with my 6 speakers?

Arc amps from Pete @ Soundz. He supplied all the wires.

Plug and play. A 5 year old can figure it out.

Good luck, Rich

Had the same exact problem on my 2011 SEEG. My fairing speakers were cutting in and out intermittently, I have my lowers removed so couldn't tell if there was an issue there. My rear saddlebag lid speakers were fine (I upgraded to the complete OEM saddlebag speaker and amp kit). Last week I lost all sound to all front speakers, if I faded the radio to the rear only, the rear played fine, if I faded to front only, no sound. I took my bike to the dealer who I have a very good relationship with. IMOP it was the amp and I told them that. We looked up the part # and the amp part # had been changed as it was the same # with an "A" after it. They had the amp in stock, we unplugged the old one, plugged in the new one and it worked, bottom line the amp was bad. While we were working on it one of the other techs came over and said he had an issue with another customers 2011 CVO SESG with the speakers cutting out. When he called MOCO's tech support they advised that they had speaker issues and the fairing speakers both regular and tweeter's had superceded part numbers "A" and to replace them. Since I had the same issue and my bike was still under warranty they ordered all new speakers for my fairing. We did check the part number for the lower fairing speakers and those had not changed. Bottom line on the 2011 CVO SESG the main Amp which sits on top of the radio as well as all the fairing speakers have been changed due to issues and as such have been replaced with "A" part numbers. So to all CVO owners who are having this problem there is/was an issue, no matter what your dealer is saying!!!

I know there is a old thread 17 pages long on this issue, but it hasn't been replied to in over 30 days, so the site says to consider starting a new thread.

My 2011 FLHXSE2 is 3 months out of warranty and the damn Amp started cutting out. Took it to the dealer and they charged me $105 to tell me they couldn't find the problem (or couldn't figure it out). It's so blatantly obvious with all the problems I'm seeing here that it is the amp, as mine is doing exactly as others have described, and my bike was made in 08/2010. I called the Customer Service number on HD and of course the MoCo is in denial that the problem exists, as there is no service bulletin, so I am SOL. Was wondering if anyone on here has any ideas???

Was looking at some aftermarket solutions. Bazooka has an amp for Harley's, but it won't work on CVO's with the factory Amp configuration. Too bad, because it is pretty much plug and play with the harness that comes with it. Anyone know of one that will work?

Thanks,

Bob

Hey, I tried to reply to the thread @ http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=61325.240 and got the message to start a new thread...I didn't make it up...the last reply to that thread was a long time ago. Nonetheless, I forgot that I had started another thread a few weeks ago, so moderator, please feel free to delete and I'll pick up where I left off there; sorry, my bad...

Yeah, I told Jamie at the Customer service number on the HD site that, but according to him, if there isn't a Service Bulletin on it, the (inherent) problem doesn't exist.
