Tools for Rear Axle
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:55:38 AM »

Does anyone have information on a tool to allow torquing the rear axle cone nut without pulling the muffler?

Sounds like my Porsche.  14 qts in that little car!  Had to  get a special drain pan that would hold the oil yet still fit under the car.

The item on ebay is a 6 point wrench which would be very difficult to get on the bolt in many positions. The ratcheting wrench gives you many more angles to work the bolt.

My answer is YES it is a big deal!

Jim...will this wrench work with the Legend Shocks?  Or would you have to take the bottom bolt out and move the shock out of the way?  I've got to have one of these, but don't want to have to buy an open end and this one too, unless I need to do so.

Jim-Thanks for the tip on which wrench to buy.  You do this every day whereas most of us maybe once every year or two but you still need the tool.

Jerry-Thanks for the tip on the 36MM wrench from  Tooldiscounter and is made by the same company.

I received my Kastar 36MM wrench from Tooldiscounter this morning (quick shipping) and looks well made.  Can also use it on top mount oil filters like a BMW, MB or late model Powerstroke's..  Gettinold-thanks for the NAPA tip but I have an 05-06 NAPA Tool/Equipment catalogue and they had crows foot but none of the sets had any that went much over 1"..
