Question about startinga 2102 FLTRXSE
« on: January 22, 2013, 03:06:23 PM »

Ok. Bike is sitting on my lift in a heated shop. Went to start it to show a buddy, and it fired right up. Shut it off and it would not start again? I pulled the maxi fuse and waited a few seconds and put it back in. Bike fired right up. Shut it off and same thing, no start. I can see the ABS light flashing on the gauge, not sure if that has anything to do with it. My 07 never did this, and I have not even had this one on the road yet. Anyone?

The ABS light on 2013 CVO Ultra flashes until the bike moves.  It usually quits flashing after about 4-5 feet.  The other problem, I have no idea.  There are people a lot smarter than me on this site hopefully you hear from them

Maybe there's a "squat switch" ? Prohibiting start up unless there is weight on the suspension? I don't know.

Is it not cranking or cranking over but not starting?

Ok, that was funny! It is not cranking, although you can hear the fuel pump start. Pull the fuse and put it back in, and bang, it starts.

If it is not cranking I would suspect that your security system is not deactivating and this prevents the motor from cranking.  Has happened to me a couple times on my cuse7 even though the fob was in my pocket.  Next time it happens move your fob and see if that corrects it.

Try changing the battery in the key fob. if the security system doesn't get the signal it won't crank over.  Besides the button batteries are cheap enough to give it a shot.

I think maybe you guys hit it! I bought this used with 13000 miles on it from a dealer, and they said they bought it from the MOCO. It could of been a test ride bike or an execs bike. But they did not give me any FOBS with it, maybe thats the problem?

On a 13 the fobs are crucial.

Without a security fob it shouldn't start at all.  I thought you said originally that the bike would start on the first attempt and run until you shut it off, but then wouldn't start if you tried it again.  If that's the case, and you really don't have a fob, something is definitely not right with the security system.  Take a look in the tour pak, saddlebags, and fairing lower pockets to see if the dealership left a fob in one of them.  If they did, put a fresh battery in it and see if anything changes.  If not, contact that dealer and get them involved ASAP.  btw, how did the bike get from the dealership to your garage?

The security system might be set to the mode that allows the bike to be moved and started without the fob, like if you forget to leave the fob with the dealer for service.
