Bitubo, Ohlin's, HD Premium, or Work's, which is the best?
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:40:02 PM »

I have read ALL the threads, still looking for input, which shock is best ( FLH/FLT ), Bitubo, Ohlin's Harley Premium's,  or Work's? No special use, one up, two up, long rides, short rides. Thoughts?

I ran a set of Ohlins 13" and HD Premium 12" last year. The premium shocks were a little harsh for me but not terrible, I think they are made for someone who is heavier than 190 lb. The Ohlins are slightly better but they aren't magic like some people claim. My bike has a really thin seat so that doesn't help the ride at all either.

Depends on what you're riding as well. You might have an Ultra and others might leave feedback for a Dyna. I've enjoyed the Progressive system (monotubes up front, 940's on the rear) I had put on my Ultra but then I put a lot of weight on em' two up and fully loaded. Centerstand drags sometimes though so maybe it's time to pull the stand or better yet, adjust up the shocks. Not hauling a 15lb laptop system might help as well (had it shipped to my bro's house to save fees but had to lug it back in the TP). Tablet next time out.

We need a CVO Harley independent test group. Missouri definitely has roads that will that will test a shocks ability.  Get 5 non vendor members to test the top shocks on the market for two or three months then report.  Shocks front and rear are a very expensive mod., it would be great to make right choice the first time.

That would be nice.   Seems like I do almost everything at least twice. I do it, thinking I have a great idea,, then I get somewhat disappointed.  Maybe I should just slow down and take more time investigating and asking more questions,,,good luck in which ever you choose.  Stuart

I have the sus tech on my 04seeg. They are great. Great ride and I'm very happy with the handling.

I would call Traxxion and the other companies for a starter.  Nothing like getting as much info to make a decision.  I have the AK-20's and the Bitubo's and the bike handles noticeably better.  But in all honesty I can't say for sure it is the best out there.  Our bikes are heavy and the market is for the type of individual that likes the slammed look regardless of the ride.  Some of us (& we are in the minority)want the best ride our bikes can deliver.  If I had multiple bikes I would be in a position to try different systems, but that is not going to happen.  Matter of fact my front end ships out today for a 25K check up & service.  Either way going from 1.9" of travel on the 12" Harley PIS to the 13" Bitubo's which are close to 4 1/2" of travel and the fact that they are adjustable suits me fine.

Good Luck

X4 for me. Except I added an inch to rear travel and ride 2 up most of the time. But love the shocks!

The truth of the matter is, there is no answer to your question.  It depends on subjective evaluation based on expectation and experience.  We all think the decision we made was the best decision.  And what is a value to me may not have any relevance to you.

Now which shock is better, all the options you mention are good.  And a lot of what you get out of the experience is related to how the set up was performed.  The same equipment set up by two people can have dramatically different results.  Let's face it too, HD's are never going to need equipment that is only useful when riding at 9/10 or better, which the vast majority of us will never reach.

So you have invested in a CVO for a reason, build on that reason (cool-factor, exclusiveness, performance, etc) and you will be happy.

I had some nice experience with HAGON SHOCKS (http://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/) in the past with other bikes I road (Sportster, Kawa ER6, Suzuki Intruder,...)
They even make shocks 'on demand' as you wish, specific as you need. (lenght, damping, ....)
distributer for USA: http://www.hagonshocksusa.com/HagShocks.htm
(Other country's on the website)
and as RayG said: "Nothing like getting as much info to make a decision."

In the end, it will still be you who has to make the decision.
Good luck!

Big Lew,

How does your passanger like the ride? I have the stock shocks on my 06 Ulta. My gal, weighs 130 and finds the ride jarring and harsh. Pot holes seem to be the worst. I am planning on ordering the Suspenson Technologies from HD Dude, but wanted to hear from a passangers perspective.

Thanks

'Rode my friend's (he has averaged 30k+ mi. /year on his last 3 HDs) Skunk, 3 days ago with the Progressive 940/Monotube setup and it was really good all around! He had the Progressives on his '10 Limited also~I rode it also~and it was really good all around! The Progressives are "firm but smooth"

I went with the HD Premium shocks on my '09 SERG and am really happy with them~(BSR likes 'em too) 'just have to do something with the front.

There are a lot of choices out there...
