I think somebody just called me a horses a$$, but thats alright, probably true.... :)

Anyways, yeah I'm running the Elite III's on mine, have had em on for about 6000 miles now, they compare to the Metz for me (had Metz on my '04 Ultra), a good handling tire, both wet and dry, plenty of traction.

After 2 sets of dunlops on the SEEG I tried the 880's what a difference, better ridding, better handling and in my opinion a much better tire that the Dunlops.  I should have known that from my previous experience with touring bikes.  It depends a great deal as to what type of ridding you do and how aggressive you ride.  For heading down the freeway going accross the county I guess the dunlops are ok, if you ride aggressive or like the back roads & twisties they are junk.  Also, Dunlops are awful in the rain.  Metzlers or Avons are much better as the compounds are softer and provide better grip, yes that translates in to less mileage but better handling!  Anyway a 1k miles one way or the other who cares if you spend as much on the bike as we do & the bottom line is to get the best ridding tire for your style of ridding.

Debating (you notice I specifically did not say arguing!) over tires is a lot like debating with Goldwingers, BMW, Ducati, etc., riders over the attributes of their ride vs a Harley.  We'll probably never agree but I've always run the stock Dunlops on and I am pleased with them.  I regularly get 11 to 12k on the rear (double that on front) and I ride mostly two-up and highway (some interstate) but not much around town.

Well, I got back yesterday from Pigeon Forge, what a great area.....just love goin down there.

Anyways, I put about 2000 on the bike for the trip, the Elite III's are holding up well, still plenty of tread and they aren't getting the flat area like the stock Lops or the Metz do.  Had one day with about 300 miles of riding, I-40 E of Knoxville running hard, and it's not exactly a straight interstate, left that and got on 151, which is basically a paved goat path, then the BRP for 60 miles down to Cherokee, then 28 up to the The Dragon and a good run up it, then off to the Foothillls parkway and back to Pigeon Forge, a rough day on the tires (and me), they held up well.  They handle GREAT on the twisties, no slipping, even when grinding off my floorboard mounts and kickstand....accelerate hard in the corners and they just held on tight....the Metz broke loose under acceleration on my '04 (in corners), so I liked that these didn't.  Have about 8000 miles on em now and they look like they'll go plenty more, so still no idea on what kinda mileage I'm gonna get out of em...

Sounds good on the Elite lll's FR8TRN.  I think the reason you don't have the flattening out of the tread surface is that you've spent so much time riding on the edges of these tires.  har!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] spyder

Thanks for the report on the tires!  Sounds like that will be a good choice for both ends of the bike when my rear is shot....can't have non-matching tires!

The load rating on the EIII is actually higher than the stock 'Lops isn't it?
