Dude,
You might as well ask for opinions on what makes a good woman. You're likely to get that many opinions.

I'll start by saying that I like the Dunlops that the MoCo puts on the bikes at the factory. As a comparison, two tire brands at opposite ends of the spectrum Metzler and Avon.  Metzler Marathons are hard as a hockey puck and have no grip to them in wet weather. ( might as well be on ice ) BUT, you can rack up the miles on them. Avon's hold the road well,  but tend to wear out quick. So IMO the Dunlop is a marriage of the two, good grip and reasonable mileage ( usually 10k on the rear and 20k on the front)  Remember the MoCo has some serious product liability issues to deal with in choosing outside suppliers. They do not, ( and I don't give a damn what anybody says ) simply pick the cheapest. Dunlops are the best overall tire for a one size fits all application.

Just my $0.02

Everyone seems to have their own opinions and views about tires. I personally like the Metezler ME880's because they handle well and have good stick while maintaining decent mileage. My biggest gripe with the Dunlops is that they track grooves due to their tread design. Interestingly enough, the new 07 SE Road King comes with the new Dunlop E3 tires which have almost the exact same tire tread pattern as the ME880's. If you like Dunlops stick with them. They cost less and are more readily available at most dealers. I like Avon's for best grip but they wear out fast.

JMHO - For a heavy touring bike, the best all-around choice remains the Dunlop.

I'm with 3Hawgs on the ME880 vote for now with about 2,000 miles since the change to the Metzelers.  May vote back to the Dunlop's if I have a problem with the Metzelers or poor tire wear.  I don't believe the Elite 3's would be a bad choice either.

Fr8trn has the E3's on his 06 SEultra and says they compare to the ME880's in handling.  Hopefully he will check in and put in his input.

I think somebody just called me a horses a$$, but thats alright, probably true.... :)

Anyways, yeah I'm running the Elite III's on mine, have had em on for about 6000 miles now, they compare to the Metz for me (had Metz on my '04 Ultra), a good handling tire, both wet and dry, plenty of traction.
