HD handlebar GPS mount 'refinement'
« on: January 25, 2013, 02:01:50 PM »

When I mounted my HD handlebar GPS bracket and got it all put together it looked great, but, when I took the 660 off and put the cover on, the mounting plate was showing because it off-set the 660 from being centered on the mount. In short, it looked like not much thought was put into it. I didn't take before pics, but, those that have one will know what I mean....and the HD site's pic is at the bottom.

The only 'downside' to this is that it takes some trial and error to get it in exactly the right position, as the adjustment screws are now hidden by the cradle.

Not having the ability to offset it 3/4" either way does not seem to be an issue.

I too notice how ugly the rectangular mounting plate looked when the cover was on.

My fix was to get the CVO part book for the 2011 CVO road glide ultra and order the square mounting plate that is used on that bike.  No plate shows when when the GPS is off and the cover is on.

Really there is an HD piece to fix this.....figures, sell us something and then sell us something else to fix it's shortcomings....typical HD! Making mine kept me busy on a slow night at work, at least.

I would like to see pics of you guys's fix.  I am going to buy this mount.
Is there any difference between the Garmin Zumo 660 and the Road Tech 660, besides they put Harley dealers on as poi?
If I buy Harley's will it be covered under my extended warranty?

I don't know if this is true or not, as I have the Road Tech Zumo 660's on my bikes, but I've heard that the Garmin Zumo 660 doesn't work properly with the HD mount.  (Must be some kind of a deal HD made with Garmin to get that to happen)  Other than working properly with the HD mount, the other difference, besides coming with the Dealer listing, is the HD comes with a 2 year warranty, where the Garmin comes with a 1 year.  And no, it won't be covered by your extended warranty.  It had to of come with the bike, or installed when you bought the bike.

Thanks for the info.  The price is the same from what I have found $650 for either the Road Tech 660 or the Garmin.
I am going to get the HD Road Tech I will the taxes but my dealer gives points for purchases maybe it will be a wash.
I like the look of the chrome mount. wondering if someone will offer a chrome cover for it...*wink & hope!

BTW your bike is one HOT looking mother!!!  I mean devil...

The reason the plate is offset, is that it fits both the new 660/665 cradles, as well as the old 450/500/550 cradle.  When mounting the 550 style cradle, the bolt pattern is rotated 90 degrees from what the 660 cradle uses.  Oddly enough, the older cradle hides the extra plate, but the new one doesn't.

As far as differences between the Garmin zumo and the RoadTech zumo.....aside from the dealership POI's, I was told that the Garmin version is NOT COMPATIBLE with the HD N.I.M. module...so if you want your GPS to interrupt your radio with voice commands for navigation, you'll need the Road Tech version....When I bought mine, they were the same price anyway.

Yeah, I hear it's headed my way very shortly.  We got pounded last Thursday and I had to cancel my trip to Michigan because of it.  They just don't have the means to remove that much snow here in Missouri.
