Passenger footboard problem
« on: January 27, 2013, 08:44:27 AM »

My wife is most comfortable when the passenger foot boards are adjusted to the lowest, and forward most, position but when I put my legs down the boards are jamming into the back of my calves. If I moved them back to get them off my legs they're in the highest position and it makes it hard for her to get on the bike and I'm afraid her legs are bent too much to be comfortable for a long haul. Has anyone else experienced this and did you find a fix or, at least, a good compromise?

Thanks,

Joe

Try swapping the left and right footrest adjusters and re-install the footrests on their original sides. It will definitely give the rider more room but take some space from the passenger.  It might work depending on your wife's leg length.

Thanks Guys! I told my wife I was going to try swapping the boards this morning but I wasn't sure if it would work. I did a search for footboards last night  but didn't see the thread that Hawg pointed me to. This site rocks!!

Thanks again,

Joe

Personally I didn't like the look of the floorboards when they were swapped to the oppositie side but its worth trying both ways. First swap the adjusters with the floorboards remaining on their original sides. Then try swapping both the adjusters and the floorboards and see which is most comfortable for both you and your wife. Try backing up the bike to really confirm if the fit is OK for you.

I will tell you that I tried it both ways including riding but in the end the factory setup turned out to be the best "compromise" for both me and my wife. But it all depends on the inseam combinations of both you and your wife. Out of the 3 options one is sure to be best for you.

If you will take the floorboards off the mounts and leave them on the side they belong so the Harley emblems are ruining the correct way and then change over the two bolt brackets from one side to the other and put the floor boards back on the sides they come off  they will work better and they will look good, what it will do is move the floorboards back and it looks good and you will have more room for your legs to back the bike up and your wife will love how they will fit to her feet and legs!!!   When you just move from one side to the other your Harley emblem and rubber pad is going be going in the wrong direction and still wan't  make your wife happy !!!!

Update - I swapped the adjusters, left the footboards on the correct sides, and set the adjusters as far as they would go down (towards the saddlebag). Had the wife sit on the bike and the crash bar was digging into her leg so I moved the adjuster up, one notch at a time, until she was comfortable. I think I ended up being 3 notches up. That moved the footboards back from the vertical position I had tried, giving me a little more clearance when my legs are down too.

We didn't go for a ride, (my wife said it's too cold), but it looks like I found a combination that's gonna work for both of us.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
