OK!! now I've got the picture as to how thy work. Thy are also an ignition eliminator, the pulsing keeps the
  ignition active.

Now I've got a hole different respective of the fobs.

  Thanks guys for the enlightenment.

Nope, that's not it either.  Once you start the bike the security system is disabled; you could throw the fob in the weeds and ride away and the engine would keep right on running.  You would only have a problem if you shut the bike down and then tried to restart it without the fob.  If you think about it this makes perfect sense.  IF the signal was required to always be present to keep the bike running, what would happen if you were running down the highway in heavy traffic and your fob fell out of your pocket or the battery died?  That would be a major safety problem that would never make it past even the most lax safety regulators.

Anyhow, don't forget to look in the manual for the procedure to set a personal security code and the wallet card you should fill out and always carry in your wallet.  Practice using the code once in awhile to keep the procedure fresh in your memory.  Like the Boy Scouts say, Be Prepared.

Not exactly. When you turn the ignition on if the fob is present the security system disarms and stays disarmed until you turn the ignition off at which time it rearms. Friend kept his fob in garage on workbench close enough for bike to get its signal. Fired it up and drove off without the fob. When he stopped for fuel he could not restart because security rearmed. Had to call his daughter to bring him the fob. He didn't know how to disarm using turn signals and code.

Thanks to Jerry for the suggestion of the plastic strip. Dumb of me not to think of as I replace both about every two years. For the duration I guess I'm lucky in that respect. Suggestion to all where I've purchased all my button cell batteries cheap and fast batterybob.com. Always used promo code "sheep" gives 10% off order.

GRC has the right advice.  Learn to unlock it manually before leaving home.

X2

Both of my fobs are still on the factory batteries, working perfectly, and on their 3rd year.   8)

Ya I do got it, Thanks a load guys hope I didn't frustrate ya to much. I had figured on after the motor is stopped that with no fob it won't restart as is (ignition eliminator).
The bit on "pulsing keeps ignition active" has now been thrown out. Got chaw on that Jerry (pulse activates ignition)(deactivates alarm) for start up. Reverse on shut down.
I think it was the continues transmitting that through me a loop.
The turn signal recoding I have not really looked in to, I hadn't realised the impotence as to what could have happened all do to a 10pence size battery.
I think I'm on the right track now, Thanks for putting up with me guys in helpping me get it.
The bike is still on the same code as when I got it. Should I change the code or are they a fixed code from HD?
For all I know there could be another set of keys out there.

The factory default is 1,2,3,4,5. And yes you should change it NOW. I would bet that most scoots that are stolen is because the owner never changed the code! I use 2,1,1,1,1, can't forget it and makes it very easy for me(and now everyone else)to start my scoot.

  Thanks Jerry,

But I'm still some what confused. What is the fob transmitting to all the time? Is it to hold an O/C (open/circuit)
on a N/C (normally closed) circuit for the alarm or is it also transmitting to some thing else?  Also if the battery did go dead, will the fob lose the progaming, or is that only when you have a new fob? I've had no fob problems and I haven't given it much thought. I didn't know thy transmitted constent that supprised me.

Sorry guys but if you can't ask your bother CVOers who can ya ask

No. Just put the new battery in. I always carry an extra battery.

I didn't change my FOB battery (didn't think about it) and while at Sturgis I kept hearing a chirp of the alarm whenever I started it. Couldn't figure it out, then it dawned on me and I changed the battery and the chirp went away. So there must be a low FOB battery sensor on the bike.

Mine is 2 years old & i have not give the fobs a thought. Very seldom use one, it rides in the trunk unless i need to lock up.
