Rant on ATT U-Verse
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:28:07 AM »

Had U-Verse installed last November and right off the bat had several technical problems which were resolved (thankfully) after many phone calls, explaining and reexplaining the problems.  So now enjoying the service.  It is very nice.

But I keep getting these aggravating email notifications.  Yesterday I got one saying my bill with the new service changes was ready for viewing.  I've made no service changes and just paid the bill last week.  WTF.  So I log in and find my account has a zero balance and shows bill paid and nothing open.  So why the email?   :nixweiss:

Today I get an email stating that I have a bundle discount which requires current subscriptions to U-Verse TV and internet (which I do) and to AT&T wireless service (which I do not and never have).  So I call customer service, wade through the menu options, explain problem to representative and wait while she verifies my bundle discount and assures me that all is OK.

Well great.  But I'd rather be spending my time on cvoharley.com than talking to someone overseas who calls herself 'Jane' but obviously is not a native English speaker.  Chit I'm hard of hearing enough without trying to discern WTF she is telling me.

So that's my rant.  I feel better now.   ;D

Yup, You're absolutely correct. Someone just trying to get your account info. I have UVerse (and actually install it also) and don't have any of those issues.

Let he help correct you with a spelling issue you had. It's actually AT$T  :-[

Having gotten dumped into that damn department over a year ago I can say I really don't enjoy working for them anymore. Screw the employees and pay the shareholders while recording huge profits every year. Over 500 hours of mandatory overtime last year (although it paid for the CVO  :2vrolijk_21:)

It does have some nice features like the whole house DVR gimmick. I see the two big satellite companies are doing it. Funny thing about any digital TV service that you have. All the software that controls those boxes is none other than Microslop. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to go to a customers house that the box "crashed" because of a software issue.  :confused5:

I'll give you one of our in house phone numbers to call sometime. You think you as a customer has to jump through hoops just to talk to someone in tech support, it's even worse on our side of the house. :-X

Off my soap box now.

I worked in a different capacity for them as well....they suck.  But, the TV/Cable stuff is alright.  It's just another big assed company who is searching for that best bottom line.

I tried Uverse on a special 3 month no contract deal.  I actually had them remove all their equip before the 3 month trial. It seems every time we used all three services at one time (phone, Internet, TV) everything went to hell, TV would tile so bad you couldn't watch it, Internet locked up and phone calls would drop off. When the service tech was removing equip he told me some areas with older twisted pair wiring have these issues. Older Areas??? My subdivision is only 10 yrs old...   I don't get how AT&T could be allowed to offer a shoddy service where some areas won't get it's full service put yet still charge the full amount as they do for people that can enjoy the full service. That's robbery to me.  I went back to Cable and also got their phone service and love it. The phone service comes with international unlimited calling option for $39.00 month. We have family in Europe and call quality with cable is awesome, we no linger get the scratchy sounds we put up with for the last 20 years with AT&T  :2vrolijk_21:

When the Tech said 'old' he was talking about the infastructure. All of those companies design there products to go on DSL. If you are in one of the many areas that don't have it, you suffer. I live so far in the boonies, I can't even get cable. Only had Highspeed for about 2 yrs. The guyz on the poker sites used to hate me. Are they still around? (Poker sites, that is?)

My horror story...had bundled account with ATT (internet, DirectTV, and phone).  I moved to another state and got the same thing.  ATT started charging me for the old acct and the new.  They never could straighten it out.  Finally wrote the CEO and ATT assigned someone to fix the problem.  I never got it corrected and finally out of frustration paid what I didnt own them so they'd stop cutting off my service.  ATT is THE WORST company I've ever encountered.  Stay as far away from them as possible.  Their "customer service" SUCKS.  I could go on and on about other problems we encountered (couldnt get them to come out and bury a cable they left across my yard for months...again had write the CEO, couldnt get them to come out and hook up phone service to my new house, etc, etc.).  Did I mention they SUCK.

i don't have uverse, but this reminded me of our service here.  i live in the boonies, so our cable will sporadically go out.  everytime i call tech support to let them know my internet is down, they try to get me to 'bundle' in my phone service with them.  i always mention that if i had my phone service with them, i wouldn't be talking to them right now, my phone would be dead.  usually, met with a very quiet, 'oh...'....

All the cable companies pretty much suck imo.  Had Time Warner for years and seemed to have poor reception from time to time and always an aggravation to get fixed.  Tried their VOIP (internet phone service) when it first came out and it was awful - no dial tone, dropped calls, etc.  So that went away quickly.

Then due to the infinite wisdom of the Feds Time Warner and Comcast had to trade some service areas so I wound up with Comcast.  They put in digital cable after a few years and I thought, great.  Not really - terrible pixilation problems from time to time and internet would go down way, way too often.  Then they started insisting that a service tech had to come out even though I (and they) knew the problems were not confined to my installation.  And to add insult to injury, oh yes, if I did not take the monthly charge for repair service then I would be charged for the tech to come out.

So when AT&T had a DSL port come open in my area I jumped ship and used AT&T for internet and went to Dish Network for TV.  I must say the Dish customer service were some of the nicest most knowledgeable folks I ever dealt with.  Did not have to call much over the four years I had Dish but when I did I got through very quickly and spoke to someone here in the US of A.

But wifey got tired of losing TV reception when a bad storm come through and I was tired of the slow DSL so off to U-Verse we went.  Cable companies are kind of like H-D - a love, hate relationship.
