Anyone live near Florence, South Carolina?
« on: February 05, 2013, 03:51:12 PM »

I have a friend in Hartsville and am looking for opinions on surrounding areas. Thinking hard about moving there in 3 years when my twins graduate from high school. Looks like a WONDERFUL place to live if you ride a Harley  :2vrolijk_21:

Born in Rock Hill, grew up in Lancaster. A little NW of Florence. Mostly level farm land. While not ugly.....not anything special in riding opportunities.
Cost of living would make it a nice place to retire. Usually very hot in Summer.

Nice area if you like hot humid summers with lots of mosquitoes. Good hunting and fishing and lots of mosquitoes. Mild winters and lots of mosquitoes. Oh did I mention mosquitoes?
Really is a good area to live.

Jesse, might want to check on the local (city and county) taxes on personal property before you settle plus while SC is a great state (dad lives in Summerville ) it does have a high state income tax, too (was 8% when I lived in Aiken county). Did I mention about the mosquitoes and humidity?  Lots of history with many civil war sites. You will have to declare  Clemson or USC before they let you move in  ::)

Guess i should have mentioned i used to live in south west Georgia so i fully know what to expect with the humidity and bugs. As far as the farmland comment, keep in mind i live in Iowa... I can drive three hours in any direction and still be in farm land. From what i can see , i could be to the beach in an hour and a half or head to the mountains in a few hours?

Head to Tennessee or Florida...zero state income tax.  Sales tax is a bit higher here (TN) but overall cost of living is good.... :2vrolijk_21:

I think it's a great idea Jesse.  :2vrolijk_21:  I'm not gonna live here in this winter wonderland, Ohio forever!  I bought 10 acres in NC a couple of years ago right off the Blue Ridge and I'm moving there when I get my cabin built.  :P

Consider that invite in the mail.  I didn't realize you lived in NC.  The land I bought is just outside of Boone, NC.

Beautiful area, Judy.  My daughter spent a Summer up there in Boone acting in a a play called "Horn of the West".  Great ridin' roads, too.

Florida SEEMS great. Until I think of hearing of the "next" tropical storm brewing and wondering if I have to board up my house and leave it all behind hoping it will be there when I return. I change my mind real fast. Tennessee I do love just don't like how far away from the Ocean it still is.
