Teen gives judge the finger at bond hearing.
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:57:58 PM »

Got to watch the video for full effect.

Teen gives judge the finger at bond hearing. Judge sentences her to 30 days in jail

We now have legal a precedent: It’s officially a bad idea to flip off the judge and swear at him while you’re in court for a bond hearing. Take note.

We have 18-year-old Penelope Soto to thank for providing the test case for this legal grey area.

The Florida teen was in court before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat Monday, reportedly after being accused of possessing Xanax bars.

After an ill-judged exchange (her jewellery is “worth a lot of money.”"Like what?” “Like Rick Ross. It’s worth money”), Rodriguez-Chomat asked Soto if she was on drugs.

“Actually, no.”

The judge ordered her held on a $5,000 bond and sent her on her way. She called “adios” and walked off — which was where her fortunes took a turn for the worst.

Rodriguez-Chomat called her back and upped the bond to $10,000. Soto, looking a bit stunned, asked him if he was serious (“I’m serious, adios”) and she walked off, again, giving him the middle finger offering a her profane farewell.

He called her back to the bench. “Did you tell me to f— off? Did you say that?”

“Yes sir.”

He sentenced her to 30 days in the county jail for contempt.

There just isn't any respect for authority anymore....school, police, judges, etc.  She got punished for something she probably should have been punished for many years earlier in her life.  It may have made a difference in where her path in life went.  Bring up a child in the way that they should go and in their old age, they will not stray from it.  That's true for good and bad upbringing.  Ok, enough preaching...sorry, just hits my button on things like this.

The sad part is she will probably not learn anything from her actions and she will think it
is all the Judge's fault.

Kids today have been brought up without there parents teaching them any respect for
anyone else or themselves.

I hate to think what our society will be like 20 years from now. Unless something changes
it will be much worse than it is now.

It may get to a point where it is not even safe to ride our CVO's on the road anymore. :nervous:

Sends chills up spine to think I could not ride anymore.

if she's under Xanax her behavior is within what one would have to expect. The judges reaction, hmmmm, I don't know. Doubling the bail for no bail related reason?

But I live in a totally different judicial tradition, so I my opinion does not count. We don't know such an instrument as contempt of court any more - for quite good reasons ...

I don't think she said "F Off".....I think she said "F You".

And Muddypaws....are you suggesting the judge grant her wish?  :huepfenlol2:

Not to get into a pizzing match with two forums members that I respect but,,,, There's a lot of people out there nowadays that are what I call "soft". If I acted up in public when I was young, My parents would whip my ass right then and there. Try to do that nowadays without someone calling the cops or children's services on you. Been there, done that. Dealing with that group of people for spanking my kid wasn't fun. And the worst part about all of it is the kids know it nowadays. They know damn well that if you were to smack them they can call any  number of child abuse hotlines and within a short time frame the cops are at your house. Makes me realize why some couples don't even bother to have kids anymore.

Sorry, end of rant.
