even a gold wing says to never ever start it and let it idle - i had one - sold it with a bad cylinder and a 110,000 thousand miles on it... in 86 i think , it was after the kaw 1000.. after the sportster that i sold with 90k on it and after the 77 electra glide i sold after i rode it 80k.. rode the kaw about 40k and the gold wing 90 - bought it used with 10 on it.
then i had kids
the iron head wanted to warm up about 2 mins - the glide wanted to warm up about the same - the kaw would not warm up sitting had to be moving but was very persnickety for a few miles. the gold wing really wanted to be started and drive right off.
the reason i warmed up the iron head and the glide was that they would stall if they still had the choke out - so i had to let it run till i could get the choke in at least half way and then ride off. both those harleys never ever left me stranded on the side of the road - but they needed care every 1000 miles or so - chains, points, etc etc. the kaw was a ignition maint nightmare. the gold wing was perfect until it needed a part - then i always figured at least two to three weeks to get a part - hated it.
the twin cam - start it and drive away - perfect every day
