Rain sock

Has there been any issues with rain getting through the rain sock?

I have the Ventalator breather that came stock on my 2011... I put the rain sock under the chrome...  running the K&N Filter...  only in a really heavy downpour and while trying to maintain 55mph did I notice any rain trickling into the intake.  I slowed down (for more than just that) and wouldn't you know, my vision got better, and the engine returned to running normal.

I guess it all depends on how heavy the rain is, as riding in just regular rain, it seems to do what it's supposed to.   8)

I hope they work. Just ordered a Heavy Breather & Sock last week. I bet that thing can really suck some water.

Was riding in torrential downpour all day long.  Towards the end of the day, bike must have sucked in a little water because the engine coughed on two occasions, but that was it.

Folks who regularly ride in monsoon conditions should probably look for an air cleaner with a real cover and not one with an exposed filter element.  While the rain socks will help repel small amounts of moisture, they were never meant to keep water out during a major downpour.  Btw, if you're riding in a monsoon, how are you able to see where you're going, and equally important, how are the other folks on the road able to see you?  My advice, when the rain starts get off the road and seek shelter.  Bikes are not safe in heavy rains.

The following is from the K&N site concerning their rain socks (they call them wraps):

"DryCharger® - K&N DryChargers are manufactured from a durable polyester material and are pre-treated with a proprietary hydrophobic process designed to prevent splashes of water or mud from saturating your K&N air filter. The DryCharger will also stop small dirt particles; yet add little restriction to the airflow of the filter. Please be aware the DryCharger is water repellent, not water proof. Depending on conditions and usage the water repellent treatment is good for 1 to 2 years."

It never occurred to me to put the rainsock on under the chrome cover.  Sounds like a good idea.....

I have the stock air cleaner and have never put on the sock. Bike has always run great and I have been in some really heavy downpours.

Thanks for all the responses. Personally not a huge fan of the heavy breather, seems to cause some issues especially with the lowers. Even with the "stock" air cleaner sounds like they could be an issue in torrential rain fall. Doesn't sound like much fun riding in rain on a regular basis!! Keep dry!!!

Yea, it took me a while to try and decide about using it. I try and never ride in the rain, and I got the compact model....supposedly works with lowers. $200 gamble :nervous:

I can not take credit for the idea... as I found it on this site myself a while back.

If you need it, it's there... and it doesn't hurt a thing when you don't.   8)

Maybe the rainsock like a tent, once it's saturated it starts to leak? Might have to carry a couple of spares!!
