What do ypu think?
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:07:12 PM »

I am 5ft 7in tall ,75 yrs old 2011 SG CVO . I have not had any problems riding the bike but as I get older I am looking for anything that will help me to handle it and stay riding longer. I am thinking of having the front end lowered 1 in. will it help me at all for handling at slow speeds? not ready for a trike yet, rode one scared me to death. Don't think I would ever feel safe on one.
         Thanks Older Guy

I'm proud of you.  I sure do hope I am able to ride at your age.

You don’t stop riding because you’re getting old, but you get old when you stop riding.

A very good friend of mine is in a similar situation. What they did was changed out the rear shocks to a set of air shocks with an onboard compressor so they could easily lower the bike when it was time to stop and maneuver at slow speeds then raise it back up and have all their lean angle back for highway riding. They used Arnotts and love them but there are several mfgs out there. The other thing they did was went with a Danny Gray seat. It sits lower and is narrower through the leg area so they can reach the ground better and is possibly the best built seat in a box out there.

Hope this helps, you are an inspiration to us all!

I know what you mean....I'm 65 and recently started working out at the gym to regain some of the upper body strength I've lost.  I have no issues handling my SESG now but in another 10 years I will likely be looking for some additional help too.  Let us know what works for you, and keep riding as long as you can. I've been riding since 10 yrs old (Vespa back then) and not looking forward to having to give up riding.......I mean NEVER!

If you have trouble pushing it backwards, you could always put in a reverse like I did  :P

The one inch drop in the front will help you a lot but you may scrap the floorboards some.
Have you taken the advanced riders course or have the DVD ride like a pro?
The DVD is great and will help you a lot. About 2 hours long but it does require practice. It will make a difference in your low speed handling more than anything you can do to the bike.
congrats on being able to still ride. At my age this is my biggest dream.

Thanks for all you thoughts, I ride with a club an the oldest one is 82, he is on a trike. Think I will drop the front end 1 in and see how that works,
