Adding tour Pack speakers to a flhxse3...
« on: February 22, 2013, 01:06:14 AM »

I know that would make 10 total..but I like the look of the speaker pods on the tour pack as it fills out the look...so of course I'd want them functional...I assume adding a harness from the head unit and an amp is the ticket?i hear of a harness that you can get that ours don't come with I believe...don't want to disturb any of the stock functions..don't need the pass volume or change controls either...just working speakers...

Unfortunately, there is no simple solution to add rear speaker pods to an FLHXSE3.

You would need to add an additonal amp for just those speakers, or start changing out stock components for more versatile aftermarket equipment.

Hope this helps ...

Not on the FLHXSE3.
The rear lid speakers are using the rear outputs of the radio. You can tap the rear lid speakers for input to the additional amp, or you can pull the radio and send it to IronCross to have low-level (RCA) outputs installed.

If you are adding an additional amp, and it can use speaker-level inputs, I would just tap the signals being used for the rear lid speakers.

Couldn't I use the input going to the rear amp?

Yes ... and that is what I meant to say.
You should tap the signals prior to the input to the rear amp (although they are the rear speaker outputs from the head unit).

They are speaker-level signals coming out of the radio so make sure your amp can handle that signal level as an input.
Before I redid my stuff I had an Arc 125.2mini mounted in the detachable TourPak. My original system is here:

Page 3 has the pics of the amp mounted:

And my current setup is here:

If you plan on removing your TP frequently it's a pain to have an amp mounted inside. Also, if you pack the TP heavily heat could become an issue so keep that in mind when laying out the install.

Hope this gives you some ideas ... good luck with the project.

After some thought..I'm going to start with a 300/4 amp for the rear pods and replace the 1 ohm lid speakers also...the front sounds ok for now...some added punch in the rear with new lid speakers new amp and rear tp pods should get me where I want for now...I've heard that someone has made a 6x9 adapters for the lids ?

Bill at Biketronics said that they have H.A.T. 6x9's and adapters for the lids

If you are going to use a PBR-300/4 amp just make sure your pod speakers are 4ohm.
Otherwise should be a VERY nice bump in sound.

Word of caution though ... you'll be re-doing the front stage shortly after you're done with the rear upgrade.

:)
