Lots of riding
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:44:07 PM »

Year one has passed and I was able to ride 28,000 miles on the 2012. After spending 8 hours doing my winter cleaning I noticed how bad the front lower fairings got blasted from the road. Good coat of wax and stand back three feet and you can't tell. Looks like keeping with my trade every 50,000 miles is the right thing to do. If not I'm sure after 75,000 their would be some painting involved. I would still rather ride then have a perfect bike in the garage....

I don't know why the lowers take such a royal beating on these bikes, but they sure do.  I got a spare set for my '04 SEEG somewhere around 20,000 miles after I noticed all the road rash they had picked up.  Never did install them, but had them just in case.  The '12 SEUC is a solid color on the lowers, at least.  Wouldn't take much to get these re-shot when the time comes.

Our dealer sells a clear plastic self adhesive that can be layered over the lowers.  I just let the stones blast them.  What ever!

The same with my bike , also the front forks and chrome around it showing a lot of road rash marks. Don't like it but I'm just going keep riding until I trade again  down the road for a new bike !!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself....

When first started really making long distance trips in the late '80's, I was a cleaning fool.  Clean before head out, clean each day after the ride and wipe off dew morning before heading out on the next leg...wore me out more than the day's ride.  >:(

Finally made the conscience effort to just clean the windshield at the end of the day and maybe a bug removal when we got to our final destination with a good cleaning at home at the end of the trip.  A good coat of wax helps but not cleaning as much makes the trip much more enjoyable.  Plus it looks like I had actually riden and didn't have a trailer queen.

Good job on the year mileage total, by the way... :2vrolijk_21:

Put some Motorcycle Armor on your lowers. Will be easier to clean and the paint will last much longer. Have it on the mini fairing, lower spoiler and front fender on my bike. Love it!
