"System software missing"...."non-recognized device"....."waiting for device to be reconnected", even when it has been......just gonna get garmin on the phone tomorrow to get through this.

And now it does not even recognize that it's hooked up at all.

Are you using the new software from Garmin (Garmin Express)?

On the zumo site...nothing there works either....needs to be acknowledged by the computer for anything to work.  Leaving the battery out for an hour...see it that does anything.  Looks like I'm going to have to use the 8 year old tomtom.....has more accurate maps and has not caused a bit of problem. Now, isn't that a glowing endorsement for garmin?

Garmin's phone tech service ranges from just acceptable to mediocre to lousy.  They have a huge share of the market & they act like it.  Will be glad when a cell phone GPS or other can be integrated easily into a bike system to make the Garmin POS units obsolete.  Until then have low expectations from Garmin as to service, and rarely get otherwise. The map software they offer is not quite impossibly hard to use, and is the worst I have seen on the market.

Have not purchased the lifetime update for my 660 as of yet due to all the &;#% problems reported widely about their lousy updates.

Other than that...not anything to add.

I have had varying degrees of help from Garmin.....I find that hanging up and calling back and giving the next 'customer service representative' a chance has worked in the past.

Battery out for 50 minutes did nothing.

Yet when you tell them you took the battery out already & did not help sometimes they say - let's try that again.  Then as you post it's time to hangup, wait awhile, then call back.  Customer Service Lottery time.

I used the link provided by ultrfxr and had no issues with my 660.
My question is when are they going to update the dealer database??? I noticed that hasn't been done since May 2012 and There have been many dealer closings just in my home area never mind across the land --- and that is one of the features I use often when traveling.

Suppose I can just check back on the Garmin site every now and then to see if it's been updated.

If you wanted you can mount your phone to the bike using one of the many mounts now available for such use. I know the IPhone has a great GPS navigation capability and I am sure many other phone also have this capability. Some phone mounts even have waterproof enclosures for the cell phone. Connect the audio output from the cell phone to the Auxiliary Input on the radio and you can listen to tunes and hear turn by turn prompts if your phone has that capability. Use the HDP-Bomm from (www.hdbomm.com) if you want the ability to also make and take phone calls while riding.

I was cruising thru the sight and saw this subject, I took my Zumo out of the storage box. (wintertime here) But I clicked on my Garmin Lifetime Updater and updated my 660. Within 45 minutes I was done. No issues. Good thing, I'm about the most computer and electronic device illiterate person I know. ........................................Fuzz

Whew.....Jessica @ Garmin got the 660 working again....sent me a USB driver & a zip file that need to be installed with a PC to the 660.......then updated the maps with the Mac...and all is good.   Now back to the PC to update the Harley POI list, 'cause it's not supported on a Mac.

Sure wish they would offer everything for us MAC users they do for PC users.  My HD POI's are way out of date.

I had problems also. I did find out that if basecamp is running, update will not work. Removed basecamp and express would load the maps.
