So there are CVO people and then there are screaming eagle people.  What I don't know is the difference between a SERG and a CVO Road Glide?  Are they the same?

No difference, SERG is shorthand for CVO Road Glide

 Screamin' Eagle and CVO are pretty much the same as far as the bikes go. The SE at the end of your model designation stands for Screamin' Eagle.
The CVO is for Custom Vehicle Operations and held more weight when the bikes were actually assembled on a SEPARATE assembly line, but HD hasn't done that in a while. The CVO group does decide what accessories get added to the bikes so they are still involved in the process.

As far as Road Glides go; the '09 is the last of The Screamin' Eagles with the Screamin' Eagle graphics, the newer ones are referred to as CVOs~no Eagle graphics~ Skulls

I think some of the other models were Screamin' Eagles in '10 being the last year of The Screamin' Eagles

All of them were / are built under Custom Vehicle Operations.

Anybody, please chime in if they have better info... I havn't done any research

I may be way off (it's happened often before), but this is how I understand CVO vs SE:

Screamin Eagle is the name for HD's aftermarket performance parts division.  Screamin' Eagle people can be those who upgraded their standard bikes with Screamin' Eagle parts.  

CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations, whose bikes come stock with some Screamin' Eagle parts from the factory, and they are named by the factory as SE (Screamin' Eagle) FLHX, SE FXDFB, or SE whatever, depending on the frame and model.

All CVOs are SEs; many regular HD bikes that have been modified with Haley parts are referred to as Screamin' Eagle, but regular Harleys, whether modified or not, are never CVOs.  

For the purposes of this forum, CVO and SE are interchangeable, and people here are both CVO AND SE people.

If you go to EBay and search for Screamin' Eagle, you'll pull up mostly CVOs, but also few standard Harleys that are modified.

I've probably caused as much confusion with this explanation, but at least I understand what I said.  I think.

Thank you to everyone replied.  I thought I (we) were thinking correctly. It just seemed odd to me that the bikes were referred to in different ways.  This does clear it up for me though.  Thanks again.

The paint and a few other "restricted" items ultimately make the difference. The CVO line has been a test bed for future accessories and in a mater of a few years the popular items on the CVOs end up in the P&A catalog.

Many above have explained the SE performance parts as well as CVO models, but I would like to add one more thing.

Even today ALL CVO bikes have SE in the model designation, so Scream'n Eagle is still part of the description of sorts.

I have a FLRTSE3, an '09 SERG.  In '11 they came out with a CVO Road Glide, FLTRUSE.  In my opinion I would not call that a SERG.  Some how CVO Road Glide seems more appropriate for the Ultra part of that particular RG.

I'm not a long time owner, but a life long admirer.  I have to admit that HD's model numbers have always baffled me to no end and still do today.  But the older I get the easier it is to do...

Too bad the "Screamin' Eagle" bikes don't actually have any SE PARTS inside the engine...

I just call mine a CVO. I have replaced a number of parts inside the engine, but generally not with SE parts... except for the SE 259e cams, which I really like.
